Club -Date With Lady WILDWOOD CREST - A special program on the Statue of Liberty will be presented to the Wildwood Crest Republican Club by the External Affairs Department of New Jersey Bell 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at the Nesbitt Community Center, Rambler Road and the Beach. This presentation, entitled "Miss Liberty-1986" tells the story of the famous lady and the nationwide effort towards her restoration. The program includes a 12-minute color sound film. A brief question and answer dialogue period will follow the presentation. VIP Meeting Set in Dennis DENNISVILLE - A meeting of Very Interested Parents (V.I.P.) of the Dennis Township Elementary School will be held 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the school. The group's goal is to develop goals focusing on peer pressure, safety, morality, and academic attitudes. Anyone interested who is not able to attend is asked to call 861-2115.

SCHELLENGER'S LANDING — Congressman William Hughes pledged his support Friday for the People's Choice slate in Lower Township ward elections May 13. Hughes is backing incumbent Second Ward Councilman Joseph Lonergan and his running mates: Erma Fire Chief Robert E. McNuIty of the Third Ward and First Ward challenger Earl "Joe" Klinger. OCEAN CITY - Mayoral candidate Roy Gillian said the problem of apparent loopholes and other flaws in this municipality's zoning ordiance is indicative of the need for a return of professionalism to the city ' government. "Code Enforcement Official Fred Cade, who is highly dedicated to his job but is frustrated by the flaws in the zoning ordinance, said it best last week when he said the law should have been drafted by a professional and not the planning board," Gilliam said. "This ordinance has been dragging along for the last four years of the current administration." Gilliam added, "and now that it is finally on the books, we find out it is not capable of doing what it was designed for — giving direction and order to growth in this community." ( Freeholder Gerald Thornton, Lower Township Republican leader, has cited "many years of diversified experience in business, management, labor relations, and law" in urging support of Robert Conroy, Edward Yates, and Phyllis Genovese. GOP-backed candidates for Lower Township Council. Conroy, First Ward incumbent, is a businessman, restaurant and tavern owner and has served as a member of the zoning board and planning board. Yates, an Air Force veteran, has a background in labor relations, labor law, and industrial management. Formerly a committeeman and ward leader in Philadelphia, he is seeking the Second Ward seat.

Genovese. seeking the Third Ward seat, is a township resident 22 years, married, and the .mother of five children. She operated her own business for 13 years in the township, and has held many positions in the township Republican organization. OCEAN CITY - Chuck Thompson, director of public relations for the mayoral campaign by Roy Gillian, is stepping down from that post in a decision agreed upon by him and Gillian. "I'm going to regret Chuck's absence from this campaign," Gilliam said, "but he and I both agree that we can't allow the mud being slung by the Joel Mott/Jack Bittner machine to rub off on state Sen. Jim Hurley, who has been a close friend of mine for many years." Thompson, director of communications for Hurley's Millville public relations and advertising firm, has been working for. Gillian on a part-time basis outside of his regular workday schedule.
