SPORTS by SUE McKinlev County Baseball Teams Go 2-5 on Soggy Fields

Although the baseball diamonds were a bit soggy last week. Cape May County teams managed to mold a couple of wins out of the mud. The Wildwood Warriors used the rifle arm of Steve Severio. who pitched a sixhitter. to topple Lower Cape May Regidnal 4-3. Severio was also successful with the stick, sending two runs home with a three-bagger. Wildwood worked hard all afternoon, but the winning run was a cinch. A wild pitch in the third inning gave the Warriors the win. Marcello Mogavero and Todd Shoffls each recorded two hits for Lower. OCEAN CITY CHALKED ONE UP with a mer ciless romp over Middle Township 11-1. The Raiders went home after six innings as Kevin Whalen pitched a three hitter and struck out 12. The Raider's record was evened at 1-1 Wildwood Catholic. Middle Township, and Lower Cape May Regional each picked up a loss. Catholic fell to Hammonton 6-2. Lower Cape May was defeated by Sacred Heart 3-1 and Middle was shutout . 1 1 -0 by St . Joseph's. six county softball games were played last week with only two successful scores. Boy Scouts of America, will hold its spring camporee at the McNamara Game Preserve on Rt. 631. in Upper Township. Friday. May 2 through Sunday. May 4. This year's theme will be the "Sand Dune Derby", a boy -powered dog sled race. Each troop will enter one or more sleds in the race. ON TIIE TRACK. Middle Tow nship girls pulled off a 62-60 victory over Bridge ton Bev Grant and Suzette Dramis were the fastest on foot. Grant took the 100 and 200 races while Dramis swept the 1.600 and the 3.200 for the Panthers. Middle tqok seven of nine foot fights while Bridgeton dominated the dirt. Shelly Jamison won the 400 for Bridgeton. as well as winning the high jump and long jump.

Jamison set a school record, clearing five feet high for the Bulldogs. THE ONLY OTHER SPORTS event that weathered the weather was the Ocean City Amateur Golfer's April Tournament Bill Camp. Bill Kittridge and Bob Shotwell were winners in the first place category while Joel Mott, Bob Wazakowski and Ed Rumer placed second Congratulations to the clubbers!
