Tom Long, candidate for Middle Township Democratic Committee, would endorse formalized training programs for township employees. "Since declaring my candidacy I have had the opportunity to talk with many of our employees. I have found fpr the most part dedicated and well informed people who really believe in serving the residents of our township." be needed as Middle Township continues to grow." LOWER TOWNSHIP - "Politics has to be the only reason not to approve the township budget," says Councilman Robert Conroy, a candidate for reelection. charging that his opposition on council wants to "knock down the budget and make cuts that would seriously hurt the services the community now receives". The budget roadblock is an example of the lack of cooperation on the present council, said Conroy, who is running with Edward Yates and' Phyllis Genovese on a Republicanbacked ticket. OCEAN CITY Mayoral candidate Roy Gillian has unveiled a proposal that could help alleviate parking problems here and at the same time provide needed meeting space for community and service organizations. Gillian explained his idea for building a community meeting complex which would feature a three-level parking garage with shops and meeting facilities on the existing Parking Authority lot between 5th and 6th streets at the Boardwalk. "This facility wouldn't cost taxpayers any money and would be selfliquidating over a 30-year^ period," Gillian said dur-

ing a meet-the-candidate fund-raiser at the Flanders Hotel Sunday. -"It would help take some of the pressure off our other parking areas and. at the same time, if- would become a major asset to our community and service organizations in the winter." NORTH CAPE MAY - The Lower Township Republican Club recently presented a plaque of appreciation to its past president. Herman Seidelman. who had served two years. The presentation was made by Ed Yates, candidate for township council in the Second Ward. The club meets every third Tuesday of the month at Keene's Kitchen. Bayshore ♦ Road. Next meeting is May 29. COURT HOUSE - As the result of a composing room error, Thomas Long was omitted from the April 16 story. "7 Vie for Middle's Democratic Nomination". Long, 47, of Burleigh, is chairman of the township Zoning Board and of the newly-formed county Division of Youth and FamilyServices Advisory Board. He is a teacher in the Job Success Orientation program at the county Vocational schools. The seven candidates are seeking the seat vacated by Democratic Committeeman > James E. Alexis, who is not seeking reelection.
