Two weeks ago, I mentioned that one couldn't find a good hoagie sale or pancake breakfast anywhere in the Wildwoods. Oops! This past week, 1 received calls from two organizations informing me that I jumped the gun. It seems as though the official ending to the Greater Wildwood Hoagie/Pancake season isn't until late May. Here are the late listings closing -jut the season. In Wildwood Crest. Hereford Masonic Lodge 77 is hoting a pancake breakfast at Tommy John's Surfside Restaurant. 8 a.m. -noon Sunday. In North Wildwood. the N.W. Rescue Squad is hosting an 'all you can eat" pancake breakfast, also Sunday. 8 a.m.-l p.m at the Rescue Squad building, Fourth and NewJersey Avenue.. THE NEW JERSEY State Grand Lodge Masonic Convention was a resounding success, with well over 3,000 delegates participating in the annual Wildwood event. I

remember several years ago when the Convention first came to the Wildwoods. April business was unheard of and the innkeepers and the restaurant owners were thrown into a state of shock. It was cold that year, and as fast as motels opened their pipes froze. Masons were moved from motel to motel, only to have ^heir "new" motel's pipes rupture. What a mess! FORTUNATELY, subsequent years have been kinder to all and the convention has become a popular event, with attendance increasing and the number of available facilities growing each year. Even the weather seems to cooperate. This year, the Grand Lodge Convention had par ticular interest to local residents. Officially installed as District Deputy Grand Chaplain was Wildwood Crest resident Jim Collins. Also sharing the local accolades was Ernie Utsch, owner of Utsch's Marina. Utsch was installed as District Deputy Grand Master. The high Masonic honors mark the culmination of a decade of service and commitment to the community and the organization. I HAD A VERY nice conversation with Marie Geiger from Convention Hall this past week. She informed me that the Tall Cedars of Lebanon are considering a move back to Wildwood for the convention of 1988 That is good news and a multi-million dollai>shot in the arm for the Wildwoods. She is to be complimented on her continuing efforts to keep Wildwood a viable Convention City. Rumor has it that Don , Long's Famous ► arcade/restaurant/mini golf course will lose 9 "fairways" to an increased parking area. His super successful Duffer's Ciiallenge has only one L drawback - PARKING. I for one will miss the "extra" holes, but it will be nice to be able to park at the facility. I just heard that Mary « and Mike Melnicoff recently purchased the DiLido Motel in Wildwood Crest, i That's good news. Mike and Mary, who owned and operated a guest house in Wildwood, are two of the area's most accommodating innkeepers. Best of Luck in their new venture. ABOUT SIX weeks ago, I mentioned the Miss Hemisphere pageant to be held Staturday in North Wildwood at the Club 18, 18th and Siu-f Avenue 1 promised th«R 1 would remind you again before the event took place. You are hereby reminded. Dennis Flvnn is coordinator of the event. For further information, call 729-0712 Proceeds from the event are donated to the Roselli Scholarship Fund and to Children's Hospital. BELIEVE IT or .not, the season of 1986 is upon us. A i brief drive along Five Mile

Beach finds restaurants and motels galore, all open for business. Local merchants seem to feel that the early Easter prompted the earlier than usual opening of business. It is good to see the town coming back to life again. With Memorial Day only a month away, our fair Island will become busier and busier each week. If only the sun would cooperate.
