Pay Hikes to Some County Employes *

Some non-union employes of the county have received merit pay increases in addition to the 5 percent hikes all received effective Jan. 1. All are retroactive to Jan. 1. They include: Pamela Eaves, assistant county treasurer. She received a $2,060 raise which brings her total salary to $32,015. Freeholder-Director William E. Sturm Jr. said this was "a recognition of her job performance; she's carrying quite a load." 1 Also1 in the Treasurer's Department, Supervising -

Account Clerk Eileen Ballinghoff was promoted to chief clerk with a $1,464 raise to $22,898. In the five-member county Adjuster's Department, assistant adjuster Jean Hoffman was raised $1,454 to $24,000. And Adjuster Joel Mott was hiked $1,058 to $21,000. Sturm said these were based on ."job performance."

Harry Kehr. director of the Facilities and Services Department, was hiked $1,060 to $32,807. There also were six promotions and seven salary increases in his department. Consumer Affairs Director Mark Diederich received a $2,302 raise to $21,420. He's been increased 26 percent in a little over a year, from the $17,000 he was

making in January 1985. Sturm said the hikes represented an "expanded office." Veterans Bureau Director John M. Moran got a $3,000 raise to $25,425. That's a 14 percent increase. but Moran's pay has gone up almost 50 percent since 1984. when he ^ was making $17,024. Sturm said the hike resulted from "expanded duties" in the office as the number of older veterans increases. Peter J. Arsenault was promoted from administrative assistant in Probation to director of the Support Enforcement Division. With it came a $5,166 annual raise to $28,500. And James Sanders was promoted from Principal Probation Officer II to Principal Probation Officer I, art upward move that also meant a $5,581 increase to $33,911 a year. 42nd Street Lights on Ocean, Dune

AVALON - Two traffic lights will be installed on 42nd Street, at Ocean Drive and Duae Drive, "hopefully before the summer," said John McCarthy, area traffic engineer for the state Department of Transportation. "The people of 42nd and Ocean have been asking for one for years," said Police Chief Louis E. Taylor. "The state did a traffic count and determined that it qualified (for a light)." McCarthy said traffic counts in August 1984 met the state s requirement of 800 vehicles per hour and that the sites have been designated as cross-town streets. He said cross-town streets are those that "connect to a principal generator (Ocean) and some destinations." McCarthy said the lights should be installed before the summer. "WE RE WORKING on

that," McCarthy said. "It takes some time to order parts and what not." After installation, the lights will have to be inspected and approved. "They will be on flash (flashing red and green signals) for seven to ten days when "we arrange to have the inspection." McCarthy said. "That's to let people know that there is a signal there " Afterward, he said, the lights on Ocean and Dune will remain green unless there are cars on 42nd Street. Also, he said, a pedestrian push button will be installed to change the signals. Charles Kona an'd Associates designed the Dune Drive light; County Engineer Neil O. Clarke designed the one on Ocean Drive. County freeholders on April 22 approved the - signal on Ocean Drive, a county road.
