Drum- Weak fish Tourney Slated
LOWER TOWNSHIP - The Lower Township Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its annual Black Drum-Weakfish Derby irv.Delaware Bay. May 24 -June 30. for party, charter and private boat anglers as well as surf fishermen. Marshall Howey. chamber president, announced the annual event and said anglers would compete for over $1,000 in prizes and trophies in the weakfish and black drum divisions. Pre-registration and a $2 entry fee are required from each angler. Registration applications are available at area tackle shops.
First prize in the weakfish and, the drum event is $250 in cash and a trophy. The name of the winner in each division will also be inscribed on the permanent trophies to be on display in the Lower Township Municipal Hall. IN ADDITION to the two first prizes, there will be prizes awarded for the second. third, fourth and fifth place drumfish and the second. third, fourth and fifth place weakfish. Other prizes will be awarded Anglers can fish anywhere in the Delaware Bay. but must weigh their fish at one of the official weighmasters prior to the deadline of 6 p.m. June 30. The contest starts at 6 a.m. May 24. Fish can be caught from private, charter and party boats or from the surf. Fish caught from the jetties from Wildwood to Reeds Beach are also eligible. Cape Team Wins Net Tourney CAPE MAY - In the recently completed City Volleyball Tournament the local favorite Jersey Cape Volleyball Team defeated Ken Maxwell Builders to w in the championship. Jersey Cape defeated The Potter 15-13 and 15-12 to reach the finals. Ken Maxwell Builders from Long Beach Island defeated the Ventnor I team 15-6. 15-17 and 15-8 to reach the finals. In two tightly contested games. Jersey Cape won. 17-15 and 16-14. BOB JACKSON and Bill Holt were outstanding in the finals, along with Rick Frrrantc. Jerry Gigger and Wayne Plocher. The remainder of the championship team included Ted Farrante. Jerry Miller. Brendan Rosenberg and Scott Hitler.
