Freeholders Okay Fishermen Loans

DUFFY COURT HOUSE - County freeholders approved $135,000 in low-interest loans last week for five commercial fishermen who want to buy vessels or equipment, expand their operations and employ more workers. "Basrcally, for each $12,000 they should create one job," Pat Currens. administrative secretary for the county Industrial and Economic Development Commission (I&EDC), explained Monday. Administered by the I&EDC, the loans — payable at seven percent interest over seven years — come from a revolving loan fund. "Actually, it was created in 1984." said Currens. "It was a Small Cities Block Grant of $500,000 for the commercial fishing industry." ALL OF THAT money was loaned by last April, she said, but more became available from loan payments of the original borrowers. Approved for a $50,000 loan last week was Twin Seas Inc. which applied for money to purchase ground and a building for processing fish. The loans is secured with property at Satt and Railroad avenues, Rio Grande. George Greger of Millman Lane, Villas, won approval for a $25,000 loan to buy a fishing boat and equipment. That loan's secured by a fishing vessel and real estate. Ronald Shenberger of Pine Road, Town Bank, and Patrick Killen of W. Rio Grande Avenue. Wildwood, both won approval for $20,000 loans, to
