Tulip Fete Events Run Into May

CAPE MAY - Weekday Tulip Festival events scheduled by the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May were a success in this fifth year of the springtime celebration, lengthening the festival from a single weekend to a full week of activities. Tuesday, April 29, the garden department of the Cape May Women's Community Club hosted nearly 80 women and one gentleman to a tulip tea at, the Welcome Center on Lafayette Street. The free event, arranged by chairman Janet Motz, included exhibits of flowers by members based on four themes: 'breakfast in bed," "lunch for two," "cocktail hour," and "dinner at eight." Mrs. Motz explained that the themes had been chosen to portray a day in Cape May in flowers. In addition, Joan Wells, a local expert on Victorian garden restoration, presented a slide lec-

Hydrangea Plant Sale CAPE MAY - The Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May is holding a sale of hydrangeas, which it points out are particularly adapted for seashore gardens, since they do well in sun and sandy soil, but also thrive in shade. The hydrangea plants are priced at $3 each to encourage planting them. To order the plants, send a check for $3 a plant made out to the chamber, to Sue Carroll, 635 Columbia Ave., Cape May, N.J. 06204. All orders must be in by May 19, and plants must be picked up at the Kiwanis Clubhouse, Beach Drive, between- 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. May 24.

4-H Teens Sponsoring Plant Sale COURT HOUSE - In time for Mothers' Day, a plant sale is planned by the 4-H Teen Ambassadors to finance their attendance at the sta(e 4-H Expo at Rutgers University later this year. The group is offering plants and flowers which include: spring combination trays, hanging baskets, dish gardens, individual pots of geraniums and begonias, plus chrysanthemums and azaleas. Pickups can be made 7-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cooperative Extension Service Educational Center, Dennisville Road. To order plants call the 4-H office at 465-5115 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. 'Miss Liberty' At GOP Meet WILDWOOD CREST - Members of the Wildwood Crest Republican Club were presented the special New Jersey Bell program "Miss Liberty-1906" April 24 at the Nesbitt Community Center. Thursday afternoon, Sandy Miller, president of Vintage Homeowners Association hosted a tulip punch with homemade cookies in the Welcome Center. Mrs. Charles Miller, immediate past president of the Cape May Garden Club, talked abciit herbs, and "Tulips for a Beautiful Spring", a slide presentation from the Netherlands Flower Bulb Growers Association, was shown.

OES to Hold Two Events COLD SPRING - Cape May Chapter 156, Order of the Eastern Star, will have a musical program presented by Carol Roop 8:30 p.m. May 12 at the Masonic Temple, Seashore Road. Roop will be accompanied by Mildred Spriggs. They have performed together at several functions throughout Cape May County. The public is welcome to attend.
