New Buoy Stores, Coils Rope

YARMOUTH, N.S. - With a Canadian patent issued and 14 international applications in process, a new safety buoy is now available for commercial trap fishermen. This new buoy coils and stores the rope lines within itself, thus eliminating one of the major hazards of commercial trap fishing — a boat deck filled with a maze of slipper, fast- ( moving ropes. For centuries, severe accidents and fatalities have been blamed the buoys, boat decks and free of dangerous ropes for the first time in history. THE NEW buoy design was invented by Canadian Kenneth Saulnier of Plea- j sant Valley, N.S. Raised in I a fishing community. Saulnier is familiar with the dangerous conditions i within the industry. After his own stint as a lobster fisherman, Saulnier

was determined to improve the fishing environment with a new system that would help lessen the fears which have become a way of life for lobster fishermen and their families. Although it is considered a major safety advance, this new type of buoy will also'help to economize and

; streamline the entire trap t fishing operation, including t the trawl or dump line i method, claims Rollitech r Industries, Inc., which i markets the device. The new buoys will also I eliminate the difficulties of hauling awkward and I heavy coils of rope onto the I boat, the firm says.
