IT S THE MIDDLE OF MAY. This is the great corn planting week. On our nearby farms corn is being planted in long rows that stretch clear across the field. As the corn planter is drawn along, a few grains of corn are dropped into the soil and covered up every few feet along this long, long row. These spots where the three or four grains of corn are dropped are called hills. The planter is so made that it puts these hills in exact lines both lengthwise and crosswise of the field. Next month, when the new corn plants have stuck their little leaves above the ground, these straight lines of green plants make the field look like a great checker board. Anyone for checkers? To date we have traveled almost half way along our yearly path around the sun, since the year began. — along to number five in our clock-face path. This means that new star groups have come into view at this stage of our journey. Don't fail to see the Big Dipper, almost directly overhead now. the farthest south it ever gets at nine o'clock. ....
