, Birds Under Closer Scrutiny Saturday

CAPE MAY POINT - New Jersey's birds will be under closer scrutiny than !> ever this Saturday during the third annual World Series of Birding organized by the state Audubon Society's Cape May Bird Observatory. That's because three more teams of bird watchers will be out this year competing for the coveted Urner-Stone Cup. It wiil be awarded to the team that sights the highest number of different species, observatory staff membef Patricia Sutton reports. Last year, 23 teams spent 24 hours tracking down* birds in their favorite haunts, Sutton said. WHILE THE 25 TEAMS registered for the competition are burning- gas dashing around the state, sloshing through mud or straining their eyeballs to see how many birds they can identify, other unofficial watchers can have fun. too.
