'Antigone' , Coming ' To LCMR ERMA — Jocelyn Cor- I des, director is residence at I Lower Cape May Regional I High School, will direct I Jean Anouilh's Antigone 8 I p.m. Friday and Saturday I in the Paul W. Schmidtchen I Auditorium of the high school. Route 9 This is the third and final production of the 1985-86 season. Cordes, a recent graduate of Beaver College. returns to her high school alma mater to lead the students through Anouilh's reworking of the classic Greek tragedy The story concerns young Antigone's burying of her dead brother, an enemy of the state, against the edict of her uncle and king, Creon. Knowing full well that her action warrants death, Antigone chooses to put her brother's soul to rest, and face whatever comes. ANOUILH HAS shifted the focus of the ancient tragedy from a conflict between natural and divine laws, to one where human strength and weakness meet against a backdrop of post World War I reconstruction, anxiety, hopelessness , and disillusionment. Cordes' credits include The Shadow Box. Goneril in King Lear. The Runaways. Ariste in Moliere's The Learned Ladies. AND Rosalind in As You Like It, among others.
