It is interesting to note the continuing abundance of "Help Wanted" signs from one end of the Wildwoods to the other. Just a few years ago, applicants outnumbered positions, and today, quite the contrary is true. I guess the national trend has finally hit the Greater Wildwoods. I don't know whether it was desperation or a lack of a decimal point, but I passed a sign the other day outside of Wildwood s Burger King that said "Help Wanted: $3.75 per hour". Certainly not a bad wage for •easonal employment! It is at this time of year that the arguments against keeping the resorts open year-round strike home with a degree of impact. With 538 motel owners and 212 restauranteurs looking for help the week before Memorial Day, one can only imagine what December would look like. NOW THAT WE'RE in a tourism mode, I couldn't let the First Annual Wildwoodhosted East Coast Stunt Kite Championship pass without mention. Slated for this weekend, the event promises to be a real crowd pleaser. The event will take place at the beach directly opposite Wildwood Avenue. Plan to attend. Earl Calloway, retired realtor of renown, is known for his kite fancy. Several years ago, Earl devised a kite that glowed in the dark and had a miniature kite travelin gup and down the kite string while it also was glowing in the dark. I can remember the contraption's maiden voyage.

Earl was flying his kite directly opposite his motel (Red Horse) along Sunset Lake. The glowing objects could be seen for dozens of blocks. Within minutes. Sunset Lake was abuzz with hundreds of curiosity seekers in search of the UFO mother ship and smaller exploration vehicle that kept descending to Earth only to return to the object in the sky. It was one of Calloway's better jokes and for the record, the ONLY one that caught me off guard. See you at the kite show, Earl. SPEAKING OF flying, two local children recently had the thrill of their lives. Shelly and Tommy Sinsheimer were chosen from area school children to participate in the recent fly-in to Disney World, courtesyTrf the Sunshine Foundation. It was only a day trip, but according to the Sinsheimer parents, Karen and Tom, it was a day their children will never forget. That's great. In previous columns, I have mentioned the Tot Tag program developed by the Greater Wildwood Motel Association. In taking the Tot Tag program one step further, the West Wildwood Police Department has initiated a 'Tag Your Tot" program. The program entails photographing, fingerprinting, and registering the participating children. Good idea and "Hats off" to the West Wildwood Police Department. For further information, call 522-2396. ON TO ANOTHER "Wildwood", the Crest to be exact. Many Borough residents are sad to hear that Ethel Filer is retiring after years of dedicated service to the community. In 1968, Filer said, "Sure, I'll take the job" and 18 years later, is at long last on the brink of retirement. Respected throughout the state, Ethel Filer will be a most difficult civil servant to replace. We wish her well as she adjusts to her new life-style. Filer lives in Wildwood Crest with her husband Lyn. a retired postal worker, now a licensed Realtor with the Hoffman Agency.

THE GREATER Wildwood Little League season is underway and the T-Ball season is about to begin. We wish all of the coaches and players the best as they commence the season of 1966. A special "Good Luck" is to be extended to Bob Fine berg, who has taken over the reins as coordinator for the T-Ball League. Judging from personal past experience Fineberg is in for some very busy Sunday afternoons. • • • Two North Wildwood fifth graders are to be complimented for a very thoughtful gesture. Christy Palermo and Jennifer Siess were the organizers of a recent baby shower given for Margaret Mace faculty members Chris Flounders and Vkki Baldwin. BOTH BALDWIN and Flounders are expecting soon, and the entire fourth and Fifth grades honored them with a surprise shower. It was an enjoyable party that caught both faculty members completely off guard. That's the way showers are supposed to be, which is in itself amazing. Just imagine how difficult it must have been for 75 4th and 5th graders to keep the secret for so long. Simply amazing. In a related side note, the Mullers, who own and operate Tot Town, should be

similarly complimented for - their involvement. When the two organizers : of the affair approached the Mullers, questioning the J cost of party decoration rentals, Muller, touched by the duo's thoughtfulness, donated the decorations at no cost. That was nice! BIRTHDAY BESTS to Jimmy Collins, who recently celebrated his 8th birthday with an open air celebration at his parents motel, the Barcelona. Happy Birthday, Jimmy! Birthday wishes are also to be extended to Lou Hornstlne, Wildwood attorney and Crest resident. Age won't be revealed, for as Lou would put it, "That particular issue falls within the parameters specifically set forth in the guidelines established to govern professional relationships. To wit, disclosure of such information would breach the inherent confidentiality developed between the two operative parties in this matter." Forsooth! Happy Birthday, Lou! Ah A CLOSING note, I would like to wish all a very pleasant Memorial Day. In the Wildwoods, this day is observed as a day in which all locals reflect upon the memories of those quiet winter days that are now a thing of the past. The season is upon us. For the next 120 days, the transformation takes place and the Wildwoods, once again, become the world's most popular family resort.
