L - LARGE TYPE BOOK What are Large Type Books? They are simply reprints of existing bookfcin 18 point type. (That's printer's jargon for letters which are several times larger than the type used in regular books. ) Why buy another copy of a book the library already owns — in large type? Large type books are provided for people with visual problems, who cannot read regular type or who get headaches after reading a short time due to eye strain and fatigue. ARE MOST large type books old classics? Absolutely not! There is only a three to six-month time gap for best sellers but the bulk of the collection is recent popular fiction. We have a fine selection of westerns, mysteries, spy novels, romances, adventure/suspense stores, biographies and best sellers. \
Do I have to pay extra tor using this service? This service if available to all Cape May County Library card holders for NO extra fee. If you know of someone who has stopped reading newspapers because the print is too small or who were avid readers and now can't enjoy books because of a visual problem — let them know about this service. IF THEY cannot get to the main library, we can make selections for them and forward the books to the branch closest to them. If you know someone whose vision has deteriorated past the point where large type is useful call the Cape May County Library. We are a depsoitory library for the NewJersey Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. In this capacity we receive a copy of every talking book in the New Jersey Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped collection in our local library. We also receive many but not all of the cassettes. THE RECORDS are free, as is the machine fo rplaying them. The cassette and record players are specially designed to play at very, very slow speeds. Thanks to the computer 1 revolution, most of the newer Talking Books are on floppy disks, making them cheaper to reproduce, less likely to break and most importantly easy and light weight to send through the mail. How do you get one of these wonderful machines so that you or one of your relatives or neighbors can enjoy having books read to them? THE CAPE MAY County Library will provide the records or cassettes and the machines free of charge to anyone with visual problems, the blind and the physically handicapped, who simply have to fill out a registration form. If you would like to try a talking record to see if you , or your neighbor or relative warm up to the concept, contact Alan Thomas at the main library of the county system in Court House and a temporary loan will be arranged. If someone has had an operation, an illness or a stroke that temaporanly disables them, he or she can also receive a temporary loan of a machine and several talking books IF YOU ARE already receiving talking books or casssetts and have a machine which develops problems, the Cape May County Library will exchange your machine for a new one. You no longer have to mail the machines to Trenton and wait for a replacement. There is no FEE for this service.^ Don't let your friends, neighbors or relatives miss out, give up or be deprived of the joy of READING.
