$6.2 Million Condo Nears Completion

by SKIP GLADUE STONE HARBOR - There is no longer an unobstructed view to the beach looking east down 96th Street. The Sanderling has come to rest at the water's edge. There are only two or three unsold units left in the $6.2 million con; dominium by The Leahy Organization located between 9601 First Ave. and the beach. A formal opening is scheduled for mid-June, according to James McStravick, executive vice-president of Leahy. "Some units may be delivered before that time, but practically it should be mid-June for the ribboncutting," said McStravick. Located on the site of the former Tides Motel, there are 23 condominiums including seven two-bedroom beach front units and 16 three-bedroom units all having views of the sea. They start at $220,000 and range to $330,000. Carl Atkinson is the construction supervisor on the project, which began last November. According to McStravick there have been no major problems with 25-30 men working daily through the winter and some 50-60 now from all the trades. LAST SUMMER there was an information booth on the site which generated 400 inquiries from mid-July to the end of August. "People are surprised at the level of finish," said McStravick. "Don Letho, the carpentry contractor, has a grand

eye and many of the final features are his suggesi tions, such as recessing the fireplaces to preserve the i sight line to the ocean," said McStravick. Named after the small birds which skirt the water's edge. The Sanderli ing will feature an atrium lobby, indoor heated swim-
