All residents and visitors are invited to the Memorial 1 Day ceremonies sponsored by the American Legion ! which will begin with a 1 parade 11 :30 a.m. Monday. May 26. The line of march will form at the foot of the 96th Street bridge and proceed to the Women's Civic Club, where Col John T. Hill, USMC-Retired. will give the main address. According to Adjutant Bob Michaels, the line of march will include Commander Jim Daniel. . assisted by Jim DeMarco and Bill Donahue with the color guard and firing squad under the direction of Herbert Hornsby Sr. Earlier in the day this group will visit six cemeteries on the mainland. AMONG THE others in the parade will be Dr. Harold Evans, a World War 1 veteran, and Frank Turse, county commander of the American Legion. Others include the 253rd Transportation Co. of the New Jersey National Guard, Brownie Troops. Royal Rangers Marching Group. The Stone Harbor Garden Club, Women's Civic Club. Yacht Club. Middle Township High School Band and the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. As part of the traditional Memorial Day celebration jn Stone Harbor, the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion makes wreaths that have been commissioned by area stores and businesses. THE WREATHS, made from poppies, will be placed in a lifeboat and taken out to sea. Among the women working on this project are Gladys Heise. Marian Hornsby. Helen Ifell. Emma llaefle, Arlene Sternberg. Gail Daniel. JoAnn Macvaugh and Florence Griffith. All proceeds are used to benefit veterans.
LAST CALL for clean-up days this spring! Tuesday, May 27 is the second designated clean-up day in the Borough of Stone Harbor and there won't be another one until September. If you have been meaning to get rid of an appliance or a lamp that just doesn't work make sure it is at the curb May 27. Refuse, rubbish, junk, junque, furniture and the like, but no building materials, may be placed curh-side for pickup no sooner than a day or two before that date. Charlie and Ethel Rudrauff celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with 100 of their friends at a gala party recently in the Women's Civic Gub, which was beautifully decorated with gold and white mums. Entertainment was provided by the S.H. Grand Pops. Harry Strohmetz, Ray deLaurentis and Herman Siri. SEVEN MILE Island extends a warm welcome to Father Michael Matveenko at Maris Stella, Avalon. He will be Father John Loveland's temporary replacement. Father Michael comes here from Holy Rosary in Cherry Hill, and this fall he will have a teaching assignment in a Catholic high school. WHAT TO HAVE for lunch on a weekend will be no problem for those who ordered hoagies for May 31 from the young salespeople at the Stone Harbor Elementary School.
