Cape May Slates Traditional Events
CAPE MAY - Many traditional hMKI popular events will be staged in and around Historic Cape May during May and June. Quilt and decoy lovers will entertain themselves at the annual M.A.C. Quilt and Decoy Show of the MidAtlantic Arts Center Saturday at Convention Hall. Show hours are 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. For additional information contact M.A.C, at 884-5404. Memorial Day. Monday, a commemorative service will be held in Convention Hall beginning 11:15 a.m. with city officials, local members of the clergy and representatives of "veterans' organizations presiding. JUNE IN Cape May will sprint out with the seventh annual running of the Great Lite Cape May Footrace Saturday, May 31. The day's activities begin at 8:30 a.m. with a three kilometer fun run followed by the main event, the grueling and competitive 10 kilometer rim. Over 500 runners are expected to participate in the races. Immediately following the 10K race will be an awards ceremony and postrace reception at the Victorian Bandstand. The 18th Annual Senior Citizens Arts and Crafts Festival June 6 and 7 in I Convention Hall is sold out again. A capacity 54 exhibitors will show and sell their handcrafted work 10
a.m. - 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday Admission is free. SATURDAY. June 7. is the annual Recreation Department Spring Dance Recital, which features local youth who participate in the city's dance program. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. For the first time in June this city's Annual Seafood Festival will be conducted the 13th through the 20th. In the three previous years it was held the weekend after Labor Day. Festival highlights will include exhibits and seafood sampling in Convention Hall June 14; tours of the Coast Guard Base and historic Cape May, a survival suit race, live music, singing of sea chanties, Miss Seafood Pageant, seafood preparation demonstrations, cooking contests and seafood specialties in local restaurants. THE WEEKEND of June ; 21 and 22 will be a busy one ; in the Greater Cape May i area as two well established spectator events unfold. Nearly two hundred speedy and colorful Hobie Cat sailing boats will compete both days in the 6th Annual Cape May Classic Hobie Cat Regatta. Hobies of all three classes, 14 foot, 16 foot and 18 foot and of various skill levels will be launching from Cannone Beach and racing off the j beach in that general area, i In addition to the regatta , j Cape May will host one of 1 the best Men's Slo-pitch 1 Softball Tournaments on , Jhe East Coast - the Ed ( Miller Memorial sponsored < bv the Cape May Softball i Club. THIS USSSA national qualifier will again attract over 50 organized teams from New Jersey. The parade will start at 32nd Street and Dune Drive and will end at the 21st Street circle. There will be a short ceremony at the borough monument. Prior to the start of the parade there will be judging for decorated bicycles. Those interested in joining the parade on bikes are asked to be at 32nd and Dune Drive at 8:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to all age groups. There is also a need of convertibles for the parade.
