Mansions Shown On Gaslight Tours

CAPE MAY - A Mansions by Gaslight Tour will open four of this landmark city's mo6t famous Victorian landmarks to the public Saturday evening 8 to 10 p.m. Sponsored by the MidAtlantic Center for the Arts (MAC), this tour focuses on the interiors of authentically restored vintage homes. In each house, guides point out the original furnishings on display. Tickets for the Mansions By Gaslight Tour may be purchased at the Emlen Physick House, 1048 Washington St., starting one half hour before tour time. IN ORDER to help tourgoers get from one house to another, MAC'S trolley-bus will run on a continuous transit loop. Tour-goers intending to take the trolley to all four houses should start at the Physick House no later than 8 p.m. Houses open on the Mansions by Gaslight Tour include: The Emlen Physick House (1048 Washington St. ) , designed by famous architect Frank Furness. It is the headquarters of the MidAtlantic Center for the Arts. Red Cross Roast Beef COURT HOUSE - There will be a benefit roast beef dinner at the Methodist Hall, 1 Church St., for the American Red Cross. 6-8 p.m. Saturday, May 31. Tickets are available at the Red Cross office, 10 N. Main St.

THE ABBEY (Columbia Avenue and Gurney Street) , built in 1869 for a Pennsylvania coal baron, is an outstanding example of Parades To Start CAPE MAY - The first Sunset Parade of the season will be held at the United States Coast Guard Training Center here 7:55 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited to an evening of twilight pageantry, music, and tradition. Parades will be held throughout the summer, weather permitting, on July 6, Aug. 3 and 31, and Sept. 22. Boardwalk Art Show OCEAN CITY — The county Cultural and Heritage Commission will sponsor its first art show on the Boardwalk here Saturday, July 5. Categories for the show are: Professional, Amateur, and Children's. It was expand- d ed and Victorianized in 1900 11 by the wealthy Wilbraham industrial family from Philadelphia to become the massive structure it is today. IN THE PAST year or so, each house on the tour has gone through remarkable changes ( making them well worth a repeat visit). The Physick House has received new carpeting in the formal parlor and music rooms, a seven-piece matched parlor set for the formal parlor, a gilt harp for the music room, and spectacular new wall and ceiling papers for Dr. Physick's library; The Abbey's two parlors and dining room have been completely transformed

with elaborate wall and ceilpapers; The Mainstay Inn make headlines last year with 19 patterns of wallpaper and stenciling that turned its entry hall ina Victorian fantasyland; while the Wilbraham mansion has added a new front portjco and a huge rear adenclosing its swimming pool.
