Chamber Opposes Burning COURT HOUSE - The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is calling on all members, area business and local chambers to write the New Jersey Public Advocate requesting the support of his agencv to intercede on behalf of Cape May County and New Jersey resort industry in stopping the off shore burning of toxic wastes. The address is: Richard Shapiro, director, NJ Public Advocate, CN 850, Trenton, NJ 08626. THE DIRECTORS were unanimous in their opposition to the approval by the NJ DEP to allow the offshore burn of toxic wastes off the Cape May County coast. The DEP is requiring only 560 million liability insurance coverage for this experiment. When an attempt was made to have a toxic bum off the Coast of Texas in the Gulf a year or two ago. Texas officials wanted a 5350 million liability insurance coverage. THE CHAMBER queries why a private firm that has been fined over 520 million dollars in the past 18 months by the Federal EPA is being allowed to conduct the experiment. Who will pay for the economic losses in case of an accident, spill or pollution of beaches, and what will happen to marine life, the chamber wants to know. Directors also applauded the naming and appointment of Charlotte Todd as chairperson of the county chamber's Environment Affairs Committee. Mrs Todd, a Cape May resident, is also chairperson of the Cape May City Environment Committee
