Commission Chagrined
Middle Seeks Water, Sewer Administrator
By GREGG I.AWSON COURT HOUSE - Mid die Township is advertising for an executive director of water and sewage facilities, much to the chagrin of the Middle Township Sewage Commission. The commission sees it as a sign that it will be abolished in favor of a township-wide Municipal Utilities Authority <MUA), but Mayor Michael J. Voll said his advertisement in 'New Jersey Municipalities" was simp ly an attempt to. get resumes in case the town ship goes to its own MUA system. "I'm somewhat disturbed that they're advertising for the position, meaning their mind is made up. and we haven't been notified." said commission Solicitor Carmen Alvarez at its May 20 meeting SHE AM) THE FOUR commissioners have been waiting over a year for committee's decision and have requested that they be allowed to participate in PI H CHRISTINE BARRERAS Degrees For Four WEST LONG BRANCH - Tour students were awarded degrees at the commencement exercises of Monmouth College here May 12. the decision-making process. Last Friday. Voll said no decision had been made and the matter will be discussed at Township Committee's June 5 meeting. It was pointed out that, in the meantime, the township is advertising for a director. "We are?" Voll said, after a pause. He was reminded of the advertisement, which bears his name and post office box number in Rio Grande "OH. I FORGOT about that darn thing." he replied "Yes. I did put an ad in to get resumes. No. we haven't received any." Voll was asked why
responses are being sent to his Rio Grande address, and not the township's Municipal Hail. "That's my post office box; I get my mail there every morning." he said. Voll said his advertise inent in no way was intended to circumvent the sewage commission. "No. it's just that I want to cover all the bases." he said. "This way. we'll have resumes in case we have to hire an executive director." TIIE HIKING OF the person, he said, would depend on the decision committee makes "That decision hasn't been made yet." Voll said. "I have my own personal feelings on the subject, but
I'm not going to discuss them until I meet With the committee." He did. however, say that the job of sewering*parts of the township will be a large and expensive one. "We need someone with this expertise to keep on top of the job and see it's completed by July 19H8 « w hen Court House and Rio Grande are scheduled to hook up to the county MUA regional treatment plant)." Voll said. "It's a big job. there's big money „ involved. We need someone with the technical exper- * tiso to handle this project." IN THE EVENT the Sew age Commission is. retained. he said, his advertisement could be helpful to it "If indeed the-township
will not be handling sewage. I can hand them 1 resumes i to the sewage commission and say. 'here's people with experience." " Voll said. "1 guess I'm doing a tittle homework for whoever 's in charge."
Voll's ad cafts for an administraloi^ with five year's experience with an . . MUA or water/sewer facility who can oversee construction operations and seek funding Salary i$ negotiable, the advertisement says.
