June Tours Slated In Victorian City

CAPE MAY - Trolley. Walking, and House Museum. and Romantic Moonlight Trolley Tours will be featured throughout June as part of the city's yeara round schedule of tours. To help acquaint visitors with the city's Victorian gingerbread architecture the MidAtlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) will sponsor: Trolley tours of the National Landmark district beginning at Ocean Street, opposite the Washington Street Mall. In June. MAC will offer two distinct Trolley Tours: The Historic East End Tour includes the historic Physick Estate, two Victorian Hotels — -the Chalfonte and the Colonial, picturesque Columbia Avenue, busy Ocean Street, and treelined Hughes Street. The tour will depart on the following schedule: Saturdays. Sundays and Wednesdays. 10:30 a.m.. noon and 1 : 45 p.m. Mondays and Friday: 10:30 a.m. and noon. TIIE HISTORIC West End Tour includes Congress Hall, the Huntington House, the famous Pink House, quaint Congress Place, unique Perry Street, and the aligned porches of Decatur Street. The tour will depart on the following schedule: Saturdays 6 Wednesdays 11:15a m.. 1 and 2:30 p.m.. Sundays. 11:15 a.m. and 1 p.m.: Mondays and Fridays. 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. WALKING TOURS of the National Landmark District are especially designed for those who like history closeup and in detail. Knowledgeable guides provide historical insights into the customs and traditions of the Victorians and their ornate, delightful architecture. Tours begin at the Information Booth at the head of the Washington Street Mall (at Ocean Street ) on the following schedule: Saturdays. 11 a.m.: Sunday*. 11 a.m.; Tuesdays. 11 a.m.; Thursday. II a.m.

Guided, tours of the Physick Estate ( 1048 Washington St. ) feature the 16-room house designed by renowned architect Frank Furness. Built in 1879 in the Stick Style, it is an authenticallyrestored Victorian House Museum. These tours run on the following schedule: Saturdays: every 45 minutes 10:30 a.m. -2: 15 p.m. (last tour leaves); Sundays. Tuesdays and Thursday, every 45 minutes: 10:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. (last tour leaves). AS A SERVICE for senior citizens and others needing transportation, a trolley shuttle runs round trips Tuesdays and Thursdays between Ocean Street (opposite the Washington Street Mall i and the Physick Estate. This shuttle service is free of charge to persons purchasing Physick Estate Tour tickets.' and runs: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 10:15 a.m.. 11 a.m.. 11:45 a.m.. 12:30 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. Romantic Moonlight Trolley Rides provide enjoyment of blamy ocean breezes and charming gaslit streets aboard MAC's open air trolley. This hour-long evening jaunt carries passengers by the booming surf of the beachfront and back through the heart of the Historic District. This ride leaves from the Trolley Station. Beach Drive at Gurney Street, on the following schedule: Fridays. 8:30 p.m.: Saturdays. 8:30 p.m. AL Auxiliary CAPE MAY - The next » meeting of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 193 will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday. June 2, at 406 Congress St. Refreshments will be served after the business meeting.
