Ferry Has A Slump In Traffic CAPE MAY - During April, traffic on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry decreased by 1,016 vehicles and decreased by 2,825 passengers from April. 1985, reported by David S. Chapman, general manager of the Cape MayLewes Ferry. For the 12-month period ended April 30, 1986, traffic was 295,423 vehicles and 932,910 passengers compared to 287,173 vehicles and 885,277 passengers for the twelve-month period ended April 30, 1985, an increase of 2.9 percent for vehicles and an increase of 5.4 percent for passengers. Ferry traffic for April, 1986, showed a decrease of 5.9 percent for passengers and 5.7 percent for vehicles.

Plastic Weapons Assailed WASHINGTON, D C. - Congressman Bill Hughes (D-NJ) has expressed serious concern about the development of plastic weapons which are capable of avoiding detection by most airport security | devices. Speaking at a hearing of the House Subcommittee on Crime, Hughes said such weapons, once preferred, could provide terrorists with a major new tool for carrying out attacks against innocent citizens. He added that the development of such nonmetallic weapons appears to be outpacing the development of new security equipment to detect them, creating a major window of opportunity for those who would abuse these weapons. DURING THE hearing, the Crime Subcommittee took testimony from a wide range of witnesses, including representatives of the Federal Aviation Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Hughes said the Crime Subcommittee, which he chairs, intends to develop a thorough hearing record on this issue in the next few months, to determine if new legislation is needed to address the problem of non-metallic firearms.
