Bowman Honored By CPAs
OCEAN CITY. Edmund D. Bowman, CPA, a resident of this city, has received the "Volunteer of the Year" Award from the New Jersey Society of Association Executives (NJSAE) based upon a nomination from the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. This award is presented annually to a volunteer who serves an organization which is a member of the NJSAE. Bowman was selected the winner in the category for large associations which employ six or more staff members. In recognition of his community service activities, he was honored at a special breakfast meeting April 23 at the Hyatt Regency Princeton in Princeton. BOWMAN. RETIRED manager partner of Bowman & Company. Collingswood, joined the CPA Society in 1933 and was the first president of its Camden Chapter (now the Southwest J ersey Chapter). At the state level, he has served as a vice president and trustee and has chaired the Municipal Governmental Accounting Committee, and the Ad Hoc Committee on the Society's 50th Anniversary Celebra-
tion, and the Committees on Cooperation with Educational Institutions and Professional Conduct. In addition, he has been a member of the Committees on Federal Taxation, Public Relations. Confer with Bench and Bar and CPA Consultation Services. BEYOND HIS involvement with the CPA Society, Bowman has been very active in community service for many years. He is a past president and 50-year member of the Municipal Accountants Association and a life member of the Collingswood Fire Co. No. 1, where he served as president and was an active volunteer fireman. Currently, Bowman is a trustee of the Crescent Temple and a member of the Steering Committee for Uniform Accounting and Financial Reporting Manual for Local Authorities in New Jersey. The first meeting will be tomorrow, 7-8 p.m. at the Big Blue Bam at 450 Goshen Rd. The club is for any child 7 years and up who would like to learn about horses. Shriners' Burns Institute in Boston, Bowman finds his 19 years of involvement with the Institute to be his most rewarding community service activity. IN 1965, he assumed responsibility for arranging transportation for burn victims in New Jersey to the Burns Institute in Boston. Cincinnati, Ohio and Galveston. Texas. In the past. Bowman has served as president of the Camden High School Endowment Board, the Collingswood Rotary Club, the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials and the New Jersey State Board of CPAs. In addition, he was an appointed member of the Committee to Aid the Commission of Revising the Budget Law of Chapter 211 of Laws of 1936, known as the "Cash Basis Act". Bowman and his wife, Alice, have three children and two grandchildren.
