Talk to Spotlight Cape May Orchids
STONE HARBOR - Orchids. those exotic, almost artificial looking flowers, often thought of as strictly tropical or subtropical plants, have many species in Cape May County. During the past six years, Keith Seager, a resident of the county, has pursued an active interest in discovering and preserving native orchids and other rare and endangered plants. He will present an illustrated lecture. "Orchids of Cape May County". 8:15 p.m. Saturday. June 14. at the Wetlands Institute. Along with his spectacular slides, Seager will discuss where, when and what to look for in locating wild orchids, starting in April and ending in February. SEAGER IS a member of the Nature Conservancy's I Preserve Committee for
the management of the South Cape May Migratory Bird Preserve and the Bennet Bog Wildflower Preserve. He is the coordinator and compiler of Cape May's annual Christmas bird count sponsored by the National Audubon Society, and he has been the high dune nature guide for the Wings ' Water Festival sponsored by the institute each September. He is also a member of the Environmental Commission of Lower Township, the Philadelphia Botanical Club, and the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club. Co. Park Concert Schedule COURT HOUSE - The entertainment schedule for Cape May County Park has been announced by Leon Fulginiti, executive director of the County Park Commission. Each summer, a series of programs is scheduled in the Bandshell at the Cape May County Park, two and one-half miles north of Cape May Court House on Route 9 and Crest Haven Road. The open air events are free. Some days, double-header concerts are scheduled. Spectators are invited to the afternoon events, but are requested to bring along their own seating. There is ample parking at the park. THE FIRST of the concerts is set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday. June 15, featuring the Brown Street Chowder Band in concert. Other events on the schedule include : Jubilaires singing, June 22; Singing Ambassadors & Suzuki young violinists, June 29; Jim Albertson, July 06; Sal Barbo and Charlie Dees Band July 13; Nal Brechs Bagpipe Band, July 20. and Larry Ferrari, July 27 Also Dan Desiderio, Cordovox. Aug. 3; Mt. Laurel Ballet. Aug. 10; Tommy Darrow and his Band and NJ Accordion Orchestra. Aug. 17. Tumolo Musical Knights. Aug. 31, Young at Heart and Dr. of Rhythm, Sept. 7, and The Garden State String Band. Sept. 14.
