World Is Theme For Flower Show

OCEAN CITY - Professional orchid displays and a variety of special exhibits will be featured in Ocean City's 14th Annual Flower Show Friday-Sunday at the Music Pier. Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. Artistic Design and Horticultural Divisions will form the base of the show with hundreds of entries expected from area amateurs. Area garden clubs will also compete in a special invitational class. Waldor Orchids. Linwood. a world class orchid grower, will lead other professionals in a large display. Additional special exhibitors include Desert Dan. Cactus, African Violet Society of South Jersey, the Victorian Society, the Herb Garden and Mary Eklund's Geraniums. DEMONSTRATIONS on flower arrangements, orchid growing an dother green thumb specialties will be presented during the show from the stage of the Music Pier. Contestants wishing information on the Horticultural Division may call Mrs. Frank Herkness, 1 , 390-0884. For artistic design details contact Mrs. William J . Friei, 398-0599 or Mrs. Eugene B. Lyness, 399-4113. Plants, flowers and supplies will be on sale at the commercial fair held outside in the pavilion area of the pier. This event is set for Friday and Saturday 10 a.m.-lO p.m. Flower Show hours are Friday, 2:30-10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-lO p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. -7 p.m. SHOW'' THEME is •'flowers Around the World" and the Artistic Design Division offers such categories as "Octoberfest in Germany" and "Tea For Two-England." A special class for youngsters 15 years and' under honors Princess Grace of Monaco. Rosettes and ribbons will ' be presented to winners in the various divisions. Special awards include the Sweepstakes Award, a blue

rosette for the most ribbons awarded to a single exhibitor in the Artistic Design Division; Award of Appreciation, a perpetual trophy to the Garden Club blue ribbon winner in the invitational class; Excellence in Artistic Design, a perpetual trophy presented by the Garden Club of Ocean City for the most outstanding entry in Class 1; Grand Award for Artistic Design presented by the city for the outstanding artistic design entry. Similar awards will be given in the Horticutural Division. Admission to the Flower Show is free. Donations will be taken to help beautify Ocean City.
