Winners of the Historic Dennis Township Essay Contest at Dennis Township Elementary School have been announced. The eighth grade graduating class participated in the contest, which was sponsored by the Dennis Township Historical Society. Awards of $50 United States Savings Bonds will be awarded the top three winners: Cindy Leith. first prize )for her essay "Clermont"; Marianne MacFarland. second. for "Eldora" ; George Wondur. third. "Belleplain". Wondur also received an additional award of a $100 U.S. Savings Bond from Nancy Harris for the best essay about Belleplain. HONORARY Mention was given to Becky Tomlin on her essay entitled "The Henry' Ludlam House". Certificates of Award were given to the following students: Alex Neilson. Ricky Kern. Steve Hunter. Cl'B SCOUT Pack Number 56 of Dennisville enjoyed its annual camp-out at the Pine Tree Campground The site was donated to the pack by UaR and Klhel Buckwalter. During their stay. Bill Donohue of the County Sheriff's Department Search and Rescue Unit, along with Booker, his bloodhound, demonstrated the working of the search and rescue unit with the aid of Booker. The boys planted 200 pine trees on the camp grounds, which earned them their World Conservation Badge from the Boy Scouts of America. The trees were provided the boys by Walter Trout of the Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Fish and Wild Life. Other activities enjoyed by the pack were swimming, softball, and frogging Those attending were: Dave Buekalter. Christopher Trout. Gabriel Berkv. Richard Selinsky. Jeremy Cnger. Michael Lamanna, Bo Bemis. Christian Maher. Steve Bartleson and Cubmaster Walter Trout and wife Linda. The troop is chartered by the Belleplain Volunteer Fire Co.. where the pack meetings are held. Post 6257 is preparing for its annual "Chicken Bar-B-Que", which will be held Saturday, June 21. on the post grounds on the Wood-bine-Belleplain Road 1 to 6 p.m. Music will be provided by "Southern Country". Cass Lawson and Ethel Bishop, champion chefs of the John Wesley United Methodist Church, announced that a church dinner is being planned. The dinner is eagerly awaited by members and friends of the congregation and is always very successful. Bernard and Roseanne Keenan, amicable hosts of the Major Gandy Bed and Breakfast, were honored and awarded a plaque by the Victorian Society of America for the authentic restoration of their home and business. Major Candy's has hosted Victorian Candlelight Weddings which took place earlier this year and many other beautiful affairs. Bernard. when he is not managing the inn. is manager of Resorts International Casino's famous Deli. Congratulation on a wonderful achievement in restoration. BETTY WARD and Bev Henry, chairpersons of the "Old House Tour and Craft Demonstrations", report that all is ready. The tour, sponsored by the Dennis Township Historical Society. will be held 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. June 28 and will include homes from all areas of the township. Craft experts will demonstrate and exhibit such crafts as stenciling, weaving. caning, quilting, old tools, etc. Tickets will be available at the United Methodist Church Social Hall in Dennisville on the day of the tour or in advance, by calling Henry at 861-5510 or Ward at 861-5395. THE DENNIS Township Community Education Program is sponsoring "Learn to Swim " classes at the Sea Grove Campground pool. Persons interested should call Bill Zappara at 861-2821 to enroll children.
