1 Community Bids Scotts Farewell
By SKIP GLADUE AVALON - The Avalon community gave the red i carpet treatment to the Rev. and Mrs. Robert W. I Scott Jr, and their children Robbie, Amy and Andy June 1 at a farewell reception in their honor at the First United Methodist Church of Avalon. Later this month Pastor Scott will undertake a new assignment in Spring Lake, having spent 11 years here. They were all there from I the youngest members of I the choir to the veteran | senior members of the I church, plus some summer | residents who came to wish I their pastor and his family I well. JACK RAUM presented | the Scotts with a check from church members and friends, while Dot Tozur gave them a silver tray enscribed "...in loving appreciation, 1975-86." Honorary grandparents Alice and Tom Marvel, who sat with the children when the Scotts were away, presented each child with a book. ALso on hand was Mayor Rachel H. Sloan, who presented Scott with a proclamation recognizing his •powerful influence for good in our community". Eleanor and Jack Raum were recognized for their general chairmanship of the affair. THE SCOTTS were Evangelist Will Speak RIO GRANDE - Evangelist Lilija Hohns of Marlton will be the guest speaker at the luncheon meeting of the Women's Aglow Fellowship of Cape May County 10:45 a.m. Saturday, June 28. at Menz Restaurant. A BURLAP BAG of coins for the parkway was given by Tom Marvel, the parish's "money man," while Paul Doell Jr. gave him a box of pancake mix and an apron with a humorous saying in memory of pancake breakfasts presented by the Sunday School Group. John Raeburn gave Scott a chef's hat from the breakfast group who recognized him for being able to scramble six dozen eggs without a shell, while Nancy Doell presented him with a bunch of tickets to former parish affairs. Steve Stattner related some tennis adventures he had had with Scott. The program was followed by a reception with Gayle Daniel as hostess. Among the committee assisting with the preparations were Romayne Mair, Evelyn Warren, Dorothy German. Reva Raeburn. Wilda Richardson. Jack Warren, Tom and Alice Marvel. Bible School At St. John NORTH CAPE MAY - St. John of God Church, Town Bank Road, will hold a Vacation Bible School 9 a.m. -noon July 7-11. All children aged 5-12 are welcome.
