Vintage Films Set For July 1-Sept. 2
CAPE MAY -The City's Vintage Festival presents popular films 6:15 p.m. every Tuesday July 1 through Sept. 2 in the airconditioned auditorium of Victorian Towers, Washington Street.
The festival, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts, includes: July 1 — Mister Roberts (1955) Jack Lemmon, James Cagney, Henry Fonda, William Powell. Directed by Mervyn LeRoy and John Ford. This classic comedy about life aboard a Navy cargo ship in World War U makes a hilarious film treat. ( 123 min. ) July 8 — Pygmalion ( 1938) Leslie Howard, Wendy Hiller. Directed by Anthony Asquith and Leslie Howard. Brilliant film version of George Bernard Shaw's play. Later remade into the musical "My Fair Lady." (96 min.) July 15 — Bringing Up Baby (1938) Cary Grant. Katherine Hepburn. Directed by Howard Hawks. Fast, frantic and funny "screwball" comedy. Anthropologist (Grant) is involved with Hepburn and pet leopard. (100 min). July 22 - The Light That Failed (1939) Ronald Colman and Walter Huston. Directed by William Wellman. A London artist struggles against adversity to complete his most meaningful painting. Adapted from the novel by Rudyard Kipling. (99 min.) July 29 — Casablanca (1943) Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman. Directed by Michael Curtiz. One of the most outstanding entertainment experiences of screen history with romance, intrigue, excitement, suspense and humor cunningly deployed by master technicians and a perfect cast. ( 102 min. ) Aug. 5 — Roman Holiday (1953) Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn. Directed by William Wyler. Revue Set To Benefit Gems Fund CAPE MAY -The Gems of Cape May County will present a musical extravaganza performed by the Rockaway Revue, Inc., of Jamaica, N.Y., featuring senior citizens 65 to 85, at Convention Hall, 3 p.m. Sunday, July 6. Folk Songs, Do-Si-Do At Village COLD SPRING — Historic Cold Spring Village will offer an afternoon of folk music with Jim Albertson Saturday. Known in this area for his "songs of the sea" at the Wings and Water Festival, Albertson will appear for two shows, 12:30 and 2 p.m. Sunday the Wheeler Dealers Square Dancers return for another afternoon of dancing. The durable melodrama of the king's double who is called in to do an impersonation when the real king is kidnapped. A swashbuckler to the core, done with great style. A lavish production, superior fun. (95 min.) Sept. 2 — Woman of the Year (1942) Spencer Tracey, Katherine Hepbum. Directed by George Stevens. A witty, fastpaced and brilliantly acted comedy As a nonchalant sportswriter and a charming news reporter who fight the battle of marriage versus career. Tracey and Hepburn set the pattern for their series of comedies to come. (105 min.)
