Ocean City Plans Big 'July Jubilee'

OCEAN CITY - Oldfashioned seaside fun with wind-surfing, treasure hunts, and balloon races ! will usher in Ocean City's second annual '"July Jubilee Week,'' June 27 through July 6. In cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, the city has planned a week-long celebration with contests and activities for ! all ages. A mayor's reception greeting two French adventurers, who crossed the Atlantic on windsurfers in the Liberte de Timex j tour, will kick off the festivities noon Friday, June 27, at the "Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. This event commemorates the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. A WINDSURFING regatta on 12th Street Beach will follow at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28. Musical entertainIment, a sand-sculpting contest, a strawberry festival, and a balloon launch, will also be featured. Freckle-faced fanatics are invited to strut their best, real or painted-on freckles, at the Freckle Contest 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28. Music lovers are invited to the first "Pops" Orchestra concert of the season Sunday, June 29, beginning 8 p.m. For additional "Pops" concerts will be held Monday, June 30; Tuesday. July I; Friday, July 4; and Sunday, July 6. all at the Music Pier. OTHER MUSICAL groups scheduled to perform are the LuLu Chanter

Singers (June 28) , the Sunshine Boys Banjo Band (July 2); and the Ferko String Band (July 5). Seekers of the unkown can send off a bottle with a note enclosed at the second annual "Message in a Bottle Contest" 1 p.m. Monday. June 30, in front of the Music Pier. Prizes will be given for the best decorated bottle. Catered for child's play are three treasure hunts. The first is June 28, 1 p.m., starting at 8th and Asbury Avenue. The second hunt, June 30, 1 p.m., will begin in front of the Music Pier, and the final event is set for July 2, 1 p.m., at the 34th Street business area. A Children's TV Showcase with A1 Alberts will be held Sunday, June 29, at the Music Pier. A RED. WHITE and Blue Costume Contest 1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, will be followed by a Teen Dance at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace, 8 p.m. On July 4, two bike parades, one starting at 54th Street and Central Avenue and the other at Longport Bridge, are set for 10 a.m. The day Will be capped by a kite flying contest, 6 p.m., a Banjo Band Concert, 7 p.m., and a giant fireworks display, 9 p.m., at the football field, 6th Street off the Boardwalk. Professional, amateur and children artists will display their art work at the Cape May County Art Show 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, on the Boardwalk. The Community Center Bazaar will be open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. that day. For information contact the Public Relations Department, City Hall, Ocean City. N.J. 08226. City Plans For 'Night In Venice' OCEAN CITY - Registration forms are available for Ocean City's "Night in Venice," a decorated boat parade and bay-front celebration held annually since 1954. Over 100 boats are expected to participate in this year's celebration with about 150,000 spectators seated at lagoon streets ends and along the bay front. Boat categories include Most Original. Best Decorated Comic. Musical, Club/Commercial, Casino, and Best Lighted. BAY-FRONT homes will also be decorated. Homes are judged on originality and creativity. Those wishing to enter the best decorated home and boat competition should contact the Public Relations Department, City Hall, Ocean City. N.J. 08226. City lagoon residents will be visited by block captains who will distribute entry forms. Deadline for registration is Thursday, July 17. The parade is scheduled for July 19.
