Expansion Slated For Cub Scouting

More boys throughout Cape May County will have the opportunity to become active in Cub Scouting as a result of an expanded Cub Scout program set to begin this fall. Beginning Sept. 1. membership requirements will be based on grade in school rather than age. Until now. age has been the primary membership requirement. Age is being retained as a backup membership requirement, however, for those boys in ungraded school situations. As of Sept. 1. membership requirements for Tiger Cubs will be moved to first grade < or age 7 ) and for Cub Scouts to second grade <or age 8.) EXPANSION will continue in 1987. en on June 1. requirements for Bear Cub Scouts will be moved to third grade (or age 9). On

June 1. 1988. membership requirements for Webelos Scouts will be moved to fourth grade (or age 10). Beginning in 1988. Webelos Scouting will be expanded to a 2-year program. At the present time, there are 2.800 boys registered as Tiger Cubs and Cub Scouts in the Southern New Jersey Council. The expanded Cub Scout Program will enable an additional 4.500 boys to become active. The Cub Scout expansion is being implemented nationwide after pilot testing in 15 councils across the country. Parents wanting additional information about the forthcoming Cub Scout expansion are encouraged to drop by the Southern New Jersey Council Service Center. 1043 South East Ave., Vineland. phone number 692-8006.
