I've been remiss in wishing Kevin Yecco the best of luck in his new position as borough clerk for Wildwood Crest. I can clear that up quickly. Best wishes in your new position, Kevin! Yecco's head must be spinning with the recent developments at Wildwood City Hall. There is probably nothing worse than beating your head against the wall for several years on the job. then leaving, only to have your position abolished because it is not deemed necessary.

I'VE KNOWN Kevin Yecco for several years, and I can vouch for his sense of humor. For Yecco, it is this quality that perhaps allows him to keep things in perspective and affords him the peace of mind to sleep at night. In accepting the position vacated by the retirement of Ethel Filer, Yecco has

some sizeable shoes to fill. For many years, Ethel Filer was the person within the Borough with the answer to every question. Her absence will be felt and extensions of best wishes are to be given as she begins a normal life. A FEW WEEKS ago, I mentioned that the Wildwood conference held in Philadelphia was orchestrated by one Renee Bailey, possibly the Renee Bailey with Wildwood roots. As it turns out, they are one in the same, and last week I received a visit from Renee while she was in the Wildwoods developing ideas for a public relations campaign. Now a public relations specialist with the highpowered Peter Martin Agency out of New York, Renee has been charged with the responsibility of

coordinating a public relations campaign for the Wildwoods that will run concurrently with the Island's joint advertising campaign handled by the Advertising Store. IT'S GOOD to see the communities embark upon a PR campaign to support the necessary advertising work. It is also good to see a "local" handling the affairs. We also seem to be well served, as Renee also does much of the PR work for such exotic places as Greece and the Virgin Islands. Personally, I think anybody with the ability and saavy to handle the PR work for Greece, given the nature of current politic affairs, should have no trouble at all with the Wildwoods! Good luck, Renee! • • • TALK OF CATS eyes, aggies, and steelies seems to be prevalent all along Five Mile Beach. Why? Because it is once again time for the National Marbles tournament which has been held in Widwood for many, many years. This article will appear just in time for you to catch the final round as the mibsters vie for the national crown. It is an enjoyable tournament that has garnered the Wildwoods national attention in years past. We even made Sports Illustrated several years ago! If you have little ones, plan to attend at least one of the final rounds. The tournament takes place on the beach at Wildwood Avenue and the mibsters "doing their thing" can be ' found throughout the day. i I HAVE FREQUENTLY mentioned the lagoon that periodically appears along the street outside Urie's I Reef and Beef. While Loch I Ness has a permanent U lagoon with an occasional I "monster" making an apI pearance, we should at I least receive some acclaim J for having a periodically appearing lagooo! It was discussing this subject with Crest Mayor Frank McCall the other day, and he feels that the problem is a direct result of the island's sinking! McCall stated that several years ago, Wildwood Crest had to cut the manholes down 14" to be even with the road surface, which had sunk 14". Somewhat of an unsettling scenario, to say the least. In 1972, the Army Corps of Engineers did a study tha'. Jluded to our fair island's sinking, but I have yet to find the article to prove my point. Perhaps now I can point to the 14" pieces of sawed-off manhole sleeves to illustrate the point. THE TRABERS of Wildwood Crest are progessing nicely with their new business endeavor. Pier 47 Marina. Located opposite the new sewage treatment facility under construction along Rio Grande Boulevard, the marina promises to one of the area's finest and most modem facilities. It has been a tough road for the Trabers, who have been immersed in a bur-

reaucratic quagmire of _ permits and applications ~ for the past four years. It is _ good to see that their pa- ~~ tience and persistence paid J off. We wish them well as the off-shore area develops and their business blossoms. A GROUP OF about 60 Island residents recently feted the Petersons to a farewell party as they prepared to leave for Anaheim, California. Bob and Sue Peterson were caught off guard and pleasantly surprised by the sentiments that were extended at the affair held at the Wildwood Crest Ambulance Corp6 building. The Borough of Wildwood Crest has lost two excellent civic activists and Morey's Pier has lost the best ail around Pier Maintenance Manager on the island. We will all note their active involvement and miss them as they depart, but our best wishes go with them. LAST WEEK. I mentioned the introduction of a deluxe 150 foot "mini-Love Boat" set to berth at the Wildwood Marina. I stated that the vessel's owner would temporarily remain unknown and disclosed. Gee whiz! I have never received so many queries into a person's identity as I did with the dinner boat's owner's name. Well, if the suspense has you picking up this week's Herald/Lantern just to find out, that's good! So, if you haven't guessed by now, the soon-to-be proud owner of the Royal Princess is none other than ex-fudge mogul Lou Lambert. You knew that already, I'll bet. While in the middle of contracts, bonds, grants, and studies for his proposed convention center in Diamond Beach, the 72-year-old Lambert, who never seems to slow down, decided that our tourism

industry needed another attraction. One can never accuse Lambert of allowing a void to sit that way long. The Royal Princess is slated to arrive within the month and many are anxiously awaiting her maiden voyage. See you aboard!
