WILDWOOD CREST - Presentation of awards to outstanding students highlighted graduation exercises at Crest Memorial School June 13. Awards were as follows: 'Creative' Learning STONE HARBOR - A "creative learning program devised by John Oxley, vice principal of Bishop Eustace Prep School, will be employed in teaching students this summer at the school's extension at 96th and Third Avenue. Approximately 50 students are expected to attend the local classes of the Pennsauken school, which will be conducted day and evening in two sessions, July 1-Aug. 1 and Aug. 1-Sept. 1. The program was started last year, and, says Oxley, students made great gains in subjects in which they previously had marginal success. Also, some students increased their Scholastic Aptitude Test (S. A.T.I scores by 200 points. For further information, call Oxley at 662-2160 days or 854-7577 evenings.

Academy. (From Page 22) people we needed for the summer. It's important, though," he said, "because if you had an officer who ran up three flights of stairs to give a person oxygen, what good would it do if the officer needed oxygen himself?" THE TRAINING is also important in that many of the summer police plan on becoming police officers full time after school or other obligations. "We find that about 75 percent of them are interested in pursuing a lawenforcement career," noted Halton. "The other 25 percent," he added, "just eft it as a summer job." The average pay for a summr officer, he said, is about $5 an hour. They are paid the same during their training period. As for the full-time officers taking the course, it offers them a chance to be on the force before completing the mandatory 300-hour minimum training needed to become a fullfledged police officer in New Jersey. "WHAT THIS COURSE does for them," said Halton, "is give them a registration to carry firearms before they complete the 300-hour training period. Many of them can't afford to take that much time off before they're employed on the force." It works better for both parties this way," he concluded. "They have the time to complete their training, which they have to do within six months after joining the force, without worrying about where the money's coming from." The Public Safety Training Center also houses a 50-yard firing range, used for practice by full-time police and is certified by the state as a police shooting academy.
