Marbles Tourney Finals Tomorrow

WILD WOOD - The 63rd Annual National Marbles Tournament is underway at the beach at Wildwood Avenue, and will wind up tomorrow. Approximately 50 boys and girls, all 14 years of age or less, are competing for this year's title. The young boys vying for the national title will play about 600 games of marbles over the four days of competition and the girls about 400 games. The festivities, sponsored by the City of Wildwood, started with a banquet hosted by the Wildwood Jaycees organization. PRELIMINARY play was conducted for three days — Monday, Tuesday, and today — to determine | finalists for the playoffs.

Semi-final play starts 8 a.m. tomorrow and the first of the finals will begin about 10 a.m., with the second final about 11 a.m. The national boy and girl champions will each receive a $500 scholarship, a four-foot trophy, and a large engraved plaque. All of the contestants j have won qualifying tour- ] naments in their own 4 communities. EACH IS accompanied < by a chape rone/escort who j also serves as coach. Contestants this year come from as far south as Alabama and as far west as Michigan. Other states represented are: Maryland, Virginia. Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, North 1 Carolina, New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut. Illinois, Massachusetts, and Tennessee. Men's Hoops CAPE MAY - The city will be sponsoring a men's basketball league for men 16 and up Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
