Money Markets Crest , 1st , OC S&Ls Still Paying Top 6.5%

The financial institutions offering it continue to be Crest Savings & Loan, First Savings & Loan of Sea Isle City, and Ocean City Homes Savings & Loan. The one change in the

leaders occurred at Sturdy Savings & Loan which introduced a "Gold Account" in April that briefly kept pace with the others, but now has dropped to 6.25 percent. The Gold Account has the same $2,500 minimum as most of the money market accounts (it pays 51* percent if you drop below that), but is a passbook .pavings account: no checks like the money markets, I which permit three a month. STURDY GUARANTEED the Gold > would pay more than its money market. It does. The mooey market at Sturdy is paying 6.1. The Gold's 6.25 is matched by Cape May County Savings and Loan and by Collective Federal's money market passbook. For comparison purposes, the 91-day U.S. Treasy Bill, which used to be the standard for the money markets, was paying 6.11 percent last week. Except for the leaders, most of the financial institutions dropped their rates a speck over the last month.
