Mrs. Spinelli is assistant manager for Security Pacific Finance Corp.. Parsippany. Her husband is employed by Finance Guarantee Insurance Co. in New York as a bank analyst. The couple will reside in Montclair

James Saad was install- ■ ed as the new president of . the Mid-Jersey Cape Rotary Club by Past District Governor James Lilley Jr. before a group of over 90 Rotarians and guests at the Wildwood Golf and Country Club June 24. In addition to Saad; James Pickering was installed as vice president; Paul Bisculca, secretary; David Williams, treasurer; Fred York, sergeant of arms; and Paul Eckstrom. Bud McGrath, Larry Powell, and immediate Past President David Burke to the club's board of directors. LILLEY PERFORMED the installation of the club's new officers in a group during candlelight ceremonies. Dr. Carl Records lit the candles, with the center one standing for the Rotary Club itself and the other four candles symbolizing the four-way test of Rotary: truth, fairness, goodwill and better friendship. Records was master of ceremonies and coordinator. Lilley was guest speaker. Alberta Seeto was the accompanist during the singing of several songs. BURKE WAS honored for accomplishments during his administration, which included an increase in club membership from 26 to 34; fund-raisers which raised over $10,000 for the club, and an increase in attendance at the directors' meetings. Burke gave Saad a paperweight. Records' I wife. June, presented Saad with a gigantic papiermache ear to symbolize Saad's profession. Dave and Peg Williams were presented with a gift for being the winners of the club's "Name the Bulletin Contest." The club's new bulletin will be called "The Middle Gear." Gag prizes were given to the Rotarians who participated in the club's golf tournament. OTHER EVENTS of the evening included the introduction of guests Ken Thorpe, district governor nominee for 1987-1988. and Carol Oliver, guidance department coordinator at the local high school, along with her husband Walt. Outgoing club secretary Larry Powell commended Records and Jay Helms for being the only two members with perfect attendance records during the past year. Dr. Edward Morrison presented Burke with an inscribed gavel plaque commemorating his year of service as president. Burke also received a past president's pin. Morrison was club president immediately before Burke. JEFF VECERE presented the club's scholarship winners to the group: Veronica Lynn, who will major in biological science at Penn State; John Lawton, who will major in hotel-motel management at Atlantic Community College; and Dottie Gallop, who couldn't be present due to a family emergency. Each will receive a 11,000 scholarship from the club. Vecere is the
club's scholarship chairman. The RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) recipients, Debbie Williams. Kathy Law. Abigail Williams and Rachel Schulz couldn't attend, as they were attending their leadership conference at Stockton State. FOUR MEMBERS received the Paul Harris Fellow plaque, medallion, and lapel button. They are Vernon Graham, Charles Mears, Edward Morrison, and David Burke. Burke's was presented to him by his parents, Raymond and Cass Burke, and wife Francey. Paul Harris Sustaining Member certificates were presented to Leon Fulginiti, Ronald Groff, Dr. Subhash G. Mehta, Bruce Noll. Larry Powell. Jeffery Vecere. William Waldron, David Williams, Ronald Williams, Scott Lozier, Nabil Hanna, and David Burke. Saad spoke on the future of the Mid-Jersey Cape Rotary Club. He commended Burke for his outstanding job as club president during the past year. Helms presented the club with a plaque for 100 per cent of its members contributing $20 each to the cause of eradicating polio in the world by the beginning of the 21st century. Dr. Joseph Pirog was installed by Lilley as the club's newest member. ATTENTION. 1986 Middle School graduates: Your eighth grade graduation pictures are ready to be picked up by stopping by the Middle School any time between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Margaret Dougherty, chairperson of the American Legion Unit 198 scholarship and education committee, announces that the New Jersey American Legion Auxiliary Past Presidents Parley Nursing Scholarship for $1,900 has been awarded to Dawn Endicott of Dennisville, a 1986 graduate of the local high school who will be attending Trenton State in the fall. The one-year scholarship is awarded to an outstanding high school graduate whose major will be in the field of nursing. COUNTY CLERK Angela Pulvino, who is the crusade and special events chairperson for the Cape May County Unit of the American Cancer Society, presented the Student Government of the Middle School with a plaque for the funds students raised during their "Bop-a-thon" April 19. David Haines, the school's Student Council advisor, along with the council's officers , accepted the award. Haines presented Pulvino with a check as a contribution to the Cancer Society for the amount raised during their Bop-a-thon. The presentation took place during the Middle School's Sixth and Seventh Grade Awards Ceremony June 16.
THE MIDDLE Township Optimist Club, with the PTA, sponsored a spelling bee for students in grades one, two. and three and a math bee for students in grades one and two at Elementary School 1 recently. Spelling bee winners were: Nancy Melroy, grade one: Kelly Jo Tomlin. grade two; and Joseph Graisbery and Jennifer Keever (tied), grade three. The math bee winners were: Kevin Kirner and David Smith (tied), grade one; and Anthony Goodwin and Christopher Lare, (tied), grade two. STUDENTS IN grades kindergarten through three at Elemental^ School 1 recently received a visit from an electronically operated talking robot. The robot spoke to the children regarding responsible behavior such as going directly home after school, staying away from strangers, learning fire safety, and refraining from littering. The children also participated in play with the robot. Sal Sgobbo of Creative Safety in Hackensack was the robot's "invisible" offstage operator. ELEMENTARY School 1 held its Annual Awards Assembly in the school's all-purpose room June 11. The following students received Perfect Attendance Cerfi tica tes : Jessica Armstrong. Gary Callaway. Melissa Fowler. Bobbi Ann Jones, Ryan MacLeod, and Veronic Wilson in kindergarten. First graders Angle Aydelotte, Richard Gruenler, Joanna Newdeck. and Rachel Reed. Second graders Dana Duncan and Deanna Jones. Third graders Harry Hagan, Jack Linn and Josie O'Connor. There were 24 kindergarten students, 19 first graders, 13 second graders, and 15 third graders who received Honorable Mention Cerfiticates in Attendance. Spelling bee awards were given to Nancy Melroy, Kelly Jo Tomlin, Joseph Graisbery, Jennifer Keever, and Glenda MacCready. MATH BEE awards were given to Kevin Kirner, David Smith. An-
thony Goodwin, and Christopher Lare. The Reaidng Incentive Program awards were given to Joseph Evangelista, Ethan Parsons. Kelly McKinley. Kimberly Jenkins, and Diane Howell. Lindsey Schumann. Ashna Nanavati, Annmarie Zeigler, and Steven Schofield received the 4-H Spring Garden Awards. Two Hundred and ninty three students received Science-Social Studies Certificates. The acknowledgement of other contests that some of the school's students have participated in included Nancy Melroy and Elizabeth Menz winners in the New Jersey Department of Energy Poster Contest. Nancy Melroy, Jana Shensky, Althea Desrosiers. and Elizabeth Menz in "My Hero Contest." Mike Fitzpatrick, who received a Citizenship Award from the Kiwanis Club, and Jon Ekstrom, who won First Place and a $50 Bond in the Bike-a-thon. Charlotte Harmon is principal of Elementary School 1 and Robert Metz is the school's vice principal. We wish our friend Gregg Willis of Court House a belated "Happy Birthday ! • • • The Middle Township Chamber of Commerce will hold a combined board of directors and general membership meeting in the Public Meeting Room of the County Library Building on Mechanic Street, Court House, 7:30 p.m. July 7. DON'T FORGET that the Fourth Annual Independance Day Celebration will begin 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 4 at the Goshen Road Sports Complex. The Phillies Home Run Derby, Tom Sawyer Events, and McDonald's McBounce will be some of the games and activities that will be available for the youngsters. Fire engine rides, hay rides, and an ex panded food selection will be available for everyone. "Syx Gun" will play live country rock music 5:30-8:45 p.m. The gigantic fireworks display will begin 9:15 p.m. The July 4th Raffle will be held 8:30 p.m. with 35 prizes to be awarded. Tickets may be purchased at the event. Winners do not have to be present.
