Here's Dolly J By Dolly Stango^M

"Thanksgiving Dinner in June", The Chalfonte Hotel's annual dinner for their Cape May friends June 24, was indeed a delight. Starting with wine and hors d'oeuvres served on the King Edward Bar at 7 p.m. and then on to dinner at 8 p.m. in the dinning room. Head cook is Helen Dickeraon. who recently appeared on the Phil Donahue Show and along with her two daughters. Dot Burton and Lucille Thompson, prepared a most delicious turkey dinner with all the fixins' even down to black eyed peas. Dessert was homemade blueberry pie and vanilla ice cream. Waitress at my table was Sandy Burton (mom -in-law is Dot Burton). She kept a watchful eye seeing that service was top-notch and it's easy to see that Sandy is going to follow in the family's footsteps. Chalfonte owners Anne LeDuc and Judy Bartella, both teachers from Bucks County, Pa., were on hand to welpome everyone. They've both worked for many years for previous owner, Susan Satterfield of Richmond, Va., who bought the Chalfonte back in 1910. Mrs. Satterfield ran the operation until her 90s, at which time she turned the management over the present owners. CAPE MAY Rescue Squad Auxiliary has just come out with their Raffle Benefit, a Caribbean cruise for two. The drawing date is Aug. 31 and you do not have to be present to win. Value of trip is $1,896, with no substitution of the offered prize. As usual, all proceeds go toward the needs of Cape May's Rescue Squad's

necessary equipment, which makes it the best ever. These auxiliary women indeed deserve many plaudits for their untiring devotion and hard work. She's Mildred Moore of West Cape May, now on her way home from Alaska — and surely a person forever on the go — seeing various countries ail over the world. Mildred has many interesting tales to tell and some "tall tales" too. ••• Ellen McBride, daughter of Charles and Shirley McBride of Cape May, has been named to "Who's Who of American High School Students", ? rating given to the top 5 percent in the country. Ellen also received the Coach's Award for Basketball. She's going into her senior year at Wildwood Catholic High School. All good wishes for continued success are sent Ellen's way. She is indeed a shining example. "THE BARRIER Island Weavers" is a local group of knitters, quilters and weavers, both men and women, who are having a show at the Cape May Point State Park in August. Meg Kubiak, a weaver, will keep me posted and says there's so much to see, including items made by all of them. IN MEMORIAN: Veronica Johnson, better known to all as "Vera", a resident of Village Green in Cape May for many years, recently dividing some months at her home in Florida as well. Vera leaves many friends and family and her dearly beloved husband, Ray. She'll be sadly missed.
