Last week's Chicken Bar-B-Que at the Belieplain V.F.W. Post 6257 was. as always, a real fun and food event. Over $1 . 100 was raised for the construction of the new pavilion next to the post. Highlights of the day were the tiny dancers, Nicole Harper, aged 2, and Christina Hulmes, 18 months. who really delighted everyone. The "Dunking Tank" volunteers. Ethel Speer, Bill Hopughton, Dick Clark. Nancy Harris and Bobbi Joe all deserve a vote of thanks... and a big towel. Richard "Richie" Deighan, popular tavern owner and restauranteur from Camden County, appeared in town recently. Rumor has it that he is looking for a new venture locally. We hope it's nearby, because he really runs a top shelf operation. Old timers remember Deighan's famous
restaurant at the Airport Circle in Pennsauken, which was owned by Neil Deighan, Richie's father. It runs in the family.. .Remember Weber's Hof Brau across the street... oh well, that does go back a bit. Roy R. Frazier of Ocean View, our new dog warden, is right on the job and I guess he will be busy now that summer is here and the homeward bound vacationers discard their grown puppies and kittens. How cruel and sad. How often you see them standing along the roads frightened and lost. Good luck, Roy! A GARDEN PARTY will be held July 19 for the benefit of the Dennis Township Historical Society at the Jonathan Crandol House, home of Steve and Pauline Cepregny, located on Petersburg and Fidler Roads in Dennisville. Pauline's garden is one of the mo6t beautiful in the ■iarea . Food and refreshments will be servi ed. The public is invited. John Merrill, a Herald columnist, presented an informative program to the Dennis Township Historical Society at its June meeting. Mrs. Norma Simpkins tells us that the Order of the Eastern Star, Rising Star 200, will be sponsoring i a breakfast-cake sale at the ' Cannon Temple Masonic Lodge 104 in South Seaville. The breakfast will be Saturday. July 19. 8 a.m. Preparations are also being made for a yard and bake sale Aug. 2. Joe Russo of the Ruritan Club reports that the beef sale was a success. Ruritan Club members work on fund raisers throughout the year, proceeds of which are used for the community, such as student scholarships. Citizen of the Year awards and repair and beautification throughout our township. The winner of the Dennis Township Ruritan Club i Scholarship Award at Middle Township High School was Veronica Lynn of South Dennis. The Dennis Township Elementary School Awards went to Michael J. Adolf and Stephanie E. Barber. Two additional awards will be given to the graduating L.P.N, class of Vo-Tech in August. THE SOUTH Millville
Gun Club, located on the Belieplain - Head of River Road in Belieplain will hold its 40th anniversary party July 20. It will be celebrated with an open house for members along with a Bar-B-Que. • • • Evelyn Harris of Dennisville was given a surprise "39th" birthday party by the members of the South Millville Gun Club during its Tuesday social night. It seems only yesterday, but it was in our May 21st column that we congratulated Jane Cannone on the wedding of her son, Philip, to the lovely, Laurie Schilling of Cape May. Sometimes happiness, like a. beautiful, fragile orchid passes so swiftly... Laurie isn't with us anymore... the victim of a tragic auto accident. Our hearts go out to Philip on his loss... but he knew happiness. Boats Needed OCEAN CITY - Patrol boats are needed to help monitor the "Night in Venice" boat parade 6 p.m. Saturday, July 19.
