— Band Concert — Here music lovers who have come To be refreshed in mind and heart Have all but lost the distant hum Of muffled traffic, worlds apart From peaceful river, gentle wind. And tales of the Vienna Woods, As twilight's first pale star is pinned Above the city's neighborhoods. Lights twinkle on, the music swells, It spans the bridge and floats to shore, A rousing march with fife and bells 'Til Sousa's spirit lives once more Uniting us beneath the stars In this enchanted interlude. When all the day's annoying scars Are lost in restful gratitude. By Viney Endicott
