Pageant Sunday At Pier OCEAN CITY - Miss Georgeann, who recently was honored with the Outstanding Modeling Teacher of the Year ■ Award, announces a last I call for both male and female contestants for a preliminary pageant to be held 11 a.m. Sunday at the Music Pier here. There is no talent test involved. Contestants are I judged on beauty, charm, pose, grace and model potential. They are required to wear two outfits, one casual or sporty and one formal or dressy. EVERY contestant entering will receive a souvenir trophy All winners of the preliminaries will participate at the finals to be held in Providence, R.I. Nov. 28. 29 and 30 at the Biltmore Plaza Hotel. All contestants may have family, friends and businesses to sponsor them and all sponsor names will ' be in the program book and announced on stage. Congeniality trophies and "most photogenic" awards will be given. The age categories are: Pee Wee and Master, 3 to 7 ; Junior Miss and Youth • (boys), 8 to 12; Teen, male and female. 13 to 17; Adult, male and female, 20 and over. Army Band Featured In Avalon AVALON — An oldfashioned Fourth of July celebration calls for a band concert and Avalon is looking forward to just that when the 19th Army Band, composed of 40 soldiermusicians. performs 7-8 p.m. Saturday in an open air concert at 30th and the Boardwalk, in Avalon. The concert is free, open to the public and in case of rain will be held in Community Hall. Concert-goers are asked to bring their own chairs. The American Legion Post of Stone Harbor, the Avalon Seniors, and many other groups have helped in planning the concert, which is being presented by the Avalon Committee for the Performing Arts. Jeannette Glazir is the chairman of that group and Bonnie Feise is chairman of the concert.

Dr. Warren G. Abrahamson, David Burpee Professor of Plant Genetics at 1 Bucknell University, Lewis burg, PA, will pre- | sent "Why Flowers Are the { Way They Are". THE LECTURE is illustrated with color slides, and in one portion of the presentation, the photos are set to music. Dr. Abrahamson is a native of Michigan and received his under-graduate degree in botany from the University of Michigan. He received his Master's and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard University. His teaching includes population and community ecology, plant-animal relationships, organic evolution, and plant taxonomy. His research interests are two-fold, including plant-insect inter- = actions and Florida fire 2 ecology.
