The full moon takes its toll on the bluefishing. The June full moon is the most severe of the fishing season because it creates the strongest tides. Veteran anglers point out that the fishing seems to peter out a day or two before the June full moon and picks up again a day or two after the full moon every year. Fluke Rules : Anglers are reminded that the 13-inch fluke law is being enforced. Some citations have been written for undersized fluke. Most party boat skippers and boat livery operators are reporting good attitude on the part of their customers who see the fluke minimum size law as a good conservation measure WHILE IT IS to soon to tell how effective the measure is, any effort to conserve fish has to be hailed. The fluke minimum went into effect last year with a 12-inch law. It goes to 14 inches in 1987. It should help future fluke fishing if the law is enforced and sports and commercial fishermen cooperate. Now. we are seeing lots of pan-sized weakfish caught and kept. These small weaks should be returned to the water unharmed to allow them to grow up. We hope that the catches are not being wasted, but we would like to see a lot of these small fish returned to the water If the same kind pf abuses are noted as were with the fluke a couple of years ago. a size and/or catch restriction is a definite possibility for weakfish if it is determined that too many small fish are being killed or wasted.
