By Libby Demp Forrest COLOR JULY beautiful — flowers, everywhere, birds still delighting us with their enchanting songs, and summertime in prime. Vacationers are well, everywhere too, enjoying the exquisite environment of Cape May county. We started out (a long time ago now) as vacationers, but then we decided we couldn't wait all year to enjoy the seashore. So here we are 12 months of the year — and we consider ourselves lucky we can work and play in J the same place. ••• While there's plenty of events for every taste, one of our favorite pastimes of the summer is the abundance of yard sales each weekend. What do we find? Well, we fa haven't found a first folio of Shakespeare for a song, but there's still the charm of the hunt. We poke through boxes and baskets, and usually find something we ■' have to have. We come home with a Tittle something every time and The Hubby scratches his head when we say the price was right. • » • SUNSET is drawing earlier than a few weeks ago when summertime peaked, ■ and it's a great interlude after a busy day. Puts things into perspective. Time I for a deep breath, a few pleasant I memories. • • •
Hey good looking, what'd you say we go out to eat? Here are a few places we like to visit: UGLY MUG. Enjoy a classic shore bar that captures Cape May past and present. The Ugly Mug at 426 Washington Street is a local institution that has stood the test of time at its vintage location. The chowder is great, the sandwiches are thick and delicious, and the drinks — well, thirst quenching in the grand shore tradition. The mugs of Cape Mayers famous and infamous, native as well as adoptees, still hang overhead. A visit to the town isn't quite complete without a visit to the Ugly Mug. A recently added attraction is the outdoor cafe, served by a band of extremely pretty waitresses. * * • JACK'S PLACE. Jack's Place is the place to be yourself, to enjoy tasty lunches, platters and munchies, and enjoy good music with "Jasper", Wednesday through Sunday. Located at 3601 Ocean Drive, Avalon, it features Rainy Jams Saturday or Sunday. > Open daily except Monday, every night offers a special feature that add to the fun of a shore vacation. Tuesday from 8 to 11 p.m. enjoy "Shrimp Nite" when you get to peel 50 great shrimp for $5.00 and enjoy all the hot oldies with "The Rockets". Friday's Happy Hours from 4:30 to 7 feature hot and cold munchies and D.J. Bob "Bulge" Mitchell. • • *
