Variety of Tours Runs all Summer
CAPE MAY — Trolley, Walking, and House Museum Tours will be featured daily this summer as part of Cape May's year around schedule of tours. The nation's oldest seashore resort. Cape May is famous for its Victorian gingerbread architecture To help acquaint visitors with the city's many splendor's. the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) will sponsor: Trolley tours of the National Landmark District begin at the Trolley Station. Beach Drive at Gurney St. This summer. MAC will offer three distinct Trollev Tours. THE HISTORIC East End Tour highlights the historic Physick Estate, two Victorian Hotels, picturesque Columbia Aveneu. busy Ocean Street, and tree-lined Hughes Street, the oldest residential street in the city. The East End Tour will depart on the following daily schedule: 10:00 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m.. 12:15 p.m., 1:15, p.m. 2:00 p.m.. 2:45 p.m., 6:30 p.m.. 8:00 p.m. The Historic West End Tour includes stately Congress Hall, the graceful Huntington House, the famous Pink House, quaint Congress Place, unique Perry Street, and the aligned porches of Decatur Street The West End Tour will depart on the following daily schedule: 10:15 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m., 3:30 p.m.. 7:15 p.m THE BEACH DRIVE Tour, designed for the architecture buff, this tour features a century of beach housing, from Victorian cottages to turn-of-the-century mansions, exotic revivals of the 1910s and

'20s, and the best of contemporary design. Highlights include one of Cape May's grandest hotels, a vintage life-saving station, the "Mae West" house, and Poverty Beach. The Historic Beach Drive Tour will depart daily at 4:15 p.m. Walking Tours of the National Landmark District provide an entertaining orientation as guides lead visitors on a comfortable stroll down the historic streets. Spiced with historical insights into the customs and traditions of the Victorians and their ornate, delightful architecture, these tours provide an intimate insight into Cape May's intriguing past, present, and future. Tours begin at the Information Booth at the head of
the Washington Street Mall (at Ocean Street) on the following schedule: Saturday's Sundays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 10 a.m. ; Mondays. Thursdays and Fridays: 7 p.m. TOURS OF THE Emlen Physick Estate. 1048 Washington St., features the 16- room house designed Ijy renowned architect Frank Furoess. Built in 1879 in the Stick Style, it is an authentically restored Victorian House Museum. The Estate Tour also includes the Carriage House, now home of the Cape May County Art League. The Carriage House has rich wood paneling and horse stalls decorated with ornate grill work. A small barn on the estate contains a display of antique tools.
The complete Estate Tour runs everyday except Monday on the following schedule: 10:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m., noon. 12:45 p.m., 1 :30 p.m.. and 2:15 p.m., EVERY WEEK in July. MAC operates Physick Estate and Trolley Tours specially geared for children 6-12. Children's Physick Estate Tours run every Tuesday morning at 10 while Children's Trolley Tours run every Thursday morning at 9 and 9:30, and begin at the Trolley station. Beach Drive at Gurney Street. Moonlight Trolley Rides offer balmy ocean breezes and charming gaslit streets aboard MAC'S Open Air Trolley. This hour-long evening jaunt carries visitors by the booming surf of the beachfront and back through the heart of the Historic District. The ride leaves twice each evening from the Trolley Station, at 8:30 pm and 9:30 p.m.
