Beausang has worn several "hats" including being an associate editor for the Catholic Star Herald, and in charge of cemeteries for the Diocese of Camden between 1962 and 1973, not to mention being responsible for $3 million worth of building in the diocese. A FORERUNNER in the use of computers in administering church affairs, to this day he lists computers as one of his hobbies. Until a couple of years ago when he had an eye operation he was an avid golfer When asked his handicap. he replied, "Four two arms and two legs," which relays his sense of humor. The youngest of four, Msgr Beausang was born in Worchester, Mass., and moved to Collingswood when he was "9 or 10." He mentions that Father Daniel Magill, former
pastor of St. Paul's, Stone Harbor, is the priest responsible for his vocation, and he completed his seminary studies at St. Mary's, Baltimore. HIS FIRST assignment was at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Atlantic City, others followed at St. Peter's, Merchantville; St. Mary's, Gloucester. Christ the King, Haddonfield; St. Vincent DePaul. WHILE DIRECTOR of Catholic cemeteries for the Diocese of Camden he built a 3,800-crypt mauseoleum in Cherry Hill and it is now expanding to accom modate a total of 6,000 crypts. Also, he is a past secretary of the National Catholic Cemetery Conference. ''Cemeteries have something to teach us." he said. "They are a place where we preserve the heritage of our faith. They are places of hope, not of sadness. Shrines maintained in cemeteries have a consoling value. You don't feel bad coming away." he added Although at Maris Stella only since March of 1985 he has won the love and respect of his parishioners. Sunday, June 29, they gathered to help him observe his anniversary. MSGR. is not the only one in the Maris Stella rectory to have a celebration.
