AlU) BUILDING AND LOAN ASSOCIATIONS SHOW RAPID DEVELOPMENT DURING THE PAST PI t YEARS.

BANKS AND BANKING

The banida* facilities of Cape May founty have kept pace with the groerth in population and valuation. The oldest National Bank in the County is the First National Bank, of Ocean City, ocganieed January 1,1903, and it has always odd the lead over those that have been started since its organization. Prior to that tine two Camden Trust Companies had branches in the County, one at Cape May City, the fither at Ocean City, The latter branch was absorbed by the First National Bank at its orranintion. To-day we have in the County eight local banks and Trust Companies with a total capital of $450,000, and total deposits of about $&ooo, ooo, if we include the local deposits of the Cape May City branch of the Security Trust Company, of Camden. AH of the institutions are .well qualified to serve their respective communities. As the years move on, and the population increases, it is fair to presume that other* will be tutted. At least three others have already been frequently

It is difficult to overestimate the godQ these institutions do, by putting to work, for the upbuilding and ^ development of the County, their hundreds of thousands of dollars of deposits, which but for them would be largely idle and unproductive, or sent array from this section to assist in the upbuilding of some other section or territory. In fact, it is still maintained by those in a position to know, that the people of Cape May County yet deposit more in banks out of 'the County than they do in the local County Banks, not ' yet being able to break their old-time habit of doiftg business away from home. Our increase in banking wealth for the last fif- - teen years has been little short of m?rvelous, and no one can estimate what the next fifteen years will pro-

duce.

The deposits will grow as the County grows, and as the people gradually get the habit of keeping their money near home where they can see its good effect. The Ocean City Title and Trust Company is located at Ocean City and as its name would indicate is

doing a prosperous business in its several lines. The Tackahoc National Bank, located in the north cod of the County, in an agricultural district, filled a long-fdt want for that community when it was or-

ganized.

The First National Bank of Cape May Court House, at the County Seat, is a great convenience for that locality. Five Mile Beach has {hree institutions. The Marine National, of Wildwood; the Union Bank, and the Wildwood Title and Trust Company—all doing well and prospering. Cape May City has the Merchants National Bank and the branch of the Security Trust Company, of

Camden.

Thus it will be seen that hardly any part of the County but has its banking facilities within a few miles at moat. Right along the subject of banking and thesaving up of deposits, comes the local Building and Loan Assoc iat iocs, of which there are more than a dozen locat-

ed In Cape May County, and with their t dollars of stockholders' dues paid in every month, i] cate the thrift of our people in general. Many a fa is paid for through these Associations. It has been the policy of each of the 1 build for itself a modern, up-to-date home of its c and the result is that the stabiliy of the financial it lut ions of the County is at once apparent by the k of the bank buildings. They are all courteous in their treatment of Ij tomers, and gladly accept small accounts, #w«t 1 liberal rate of interest on idle funds, thus a dating everyone to his own needs and requi Surely the County is very fortunate in the n of financial accommodations, and those moving is f other sections find better conveniences here t tiie places they came from.
