-4A r ATTEMPT TO THROTTLE PROGRESS. Almost simultaneously with the graduation of Cape May County into the third class, a movement lias been started to introduce a bill in the Legislature raising the necessary number of inhabitants required to make a third class county from twenty i to ; tbirty thousand, thus holding Cape May County in ‘the fourth class, and demoting with it Gloucester, Hunterdon, Oceau, Salem, | Somriset and Sussex counties. [' Cape May County’s population according to the 1910 census I was 29,745. As it required 20,000 population to make a third : class county, Cape May alone of all the counties in the State, remained in the fourth class at that census. The 1915 census gives ■ population of 24,000 and automatically graduates the county into the third daas. This change does, however, not take place until January first, 1916, and those whose interests would snfler by it are bade of the propos'd legislation, aimed solely to keep this county ii the fourth class. Any move along this line should be bitterly opposed, not alone by Cape May County but by every other county which would lx affected by the change. Personal interests must not be allowed tc arise over the interests of the people at large, and of the county as a whole. The change from the fourth to the third class places the granting of liquor 'licences, hitherto done by the Common PleaJudge, in the hands of the governing officials of the various municipalities, the Judge granting only township licences. Here is when the rub cocoes in. Certain interests, especially in the lower end ol the county would suffer if the city officials should have the granting ^oH^Jor J^nces, and these persons by any means, fair or foul, will £ t "T^Glo8F**u:b a move if it is at ajlyrossible. The bill inafctMffthe in required population would lx introduced in the early opening hours of the Legislature this fall, with the hope to engineer it through to a final passage lieforc the leguCators have fully awakened to its import, and before the cliaugc in this county becomes efiective. Thus before Cape May Couuty has opened its eyes as a third class county it would be held back for ten or twenty yeeis until it grows large enough to again graduate into the third class under the new law. And then there is nothing , to rtop further legislation keeping it in fourth class until the present and the coming generation shall have faded into oblivion, unlets ftome drastic action is taken to keep a few jxjwcriul political pilferers where the)- belong. It ia this brand of politician that hurts a community. To farther his own interests he stops at nothing. Personal ann property rights arc a joke to liim so long as the poliiical pap continues to come his way. It is this type of politician that hu.' injured and retarded the growth of Sea Isle City, aud is nov seeking to throttle Stone Harbor and in a lesser degree \\ ildwood. Rest assured that the Tiwks will bitterly op|>ose any attcmpl to legislate Cape May County back into tire fourth class, and we be ► that every fearless, loyal and indcjiendcir. newsj»aj>ei‘ in tl.c aty will Le with us. Every voter should make it a special point to see that the man they elect to the Senate aud Legislature this year COKS ON KKCOSD BKFQB-K his KUtCTiON against any such harmful legislation, ami that he will fight with au. his main and ki vkk the passage of nay law that will prevent Cape Map County Iroui catering the thud class, where it now justly belongs.

VACATION SEASON Ol ER. With the advent of the first week in September, the usual exodus of summer visitors commences, and by Labor Day, the reports of the county are pretty well cleaned out, with only the few .yjyj podfflBthe beauties of this mouth, and of October, at the shore
remaining.
!<or people wyth families, jwlicrc the children ate forced to be at gpfyw.l for tbe opening early in September, there is an excuse for leaving. For the others, who hare no particular ties at home to force them to leave the coming mouths are really the most enjoyable. September aud October have a charm all their own. Bathing is ut its best. Ok! Ocean, warned by the summer's sun, is particoiarly ddightlul, and those who would fain to dip in the briny ox frolic on tbe beach find conditions bcttei than at any other time in the ycai. The scenic beauty in the surrounding country is also at its lx-st. With deliciously warm weather, few mosquitoes or bugs to mat the joy of travel, and the trees turning to red and gold, it makes a time once spent never to be foiguttrn, as those who reside at the shore the year round can well testify. Make it c point this year tv stay a little longer than usual. Look about and enjoy youisdf, for ibis is a time when living itself is a great joy, and all natui. helps it along It’s a good tonic, a nerves aud au inspiration to better work ou the Mum — —' work-«-da\ htA^ *
