WARNING TO EXCISE VIOLATORS,

The unprecedented fine levied by Judge Eidridge against Carl Brrickson, of Wildwood, for illegal sale ofliquor should serve as a

warning to the hotel keepers of the County

Judge Eidridge is sincere and determined in his stand to iely punish violators of the excise laws, and is using the rash

rut ihe issue calls for in making his stand felt

Ever) law-respecting person will be in sympathy with him in this, and will admire him for it The time has passed when political powei and financial strength is insurance against prose-

cution for breaking the law, and this is well.

POOR WAY TO BUILD UP CITY. Some people have very queer ideas as to hov to build up their home town, and if all were like them there would soon be no town to build up ; grass would grow in the streets and merchants could turn the key in their doors and go fishing. One of the worst examples of the habit in aiding out-of-town business people at the expense of the home merchant was related tc ns a day or two ago by a well-known contractor, and we give on his say so.. Solicitors for a new church approached a dealer in paints and naked ior a donation of paint for the priming coat of the building. The dealer by way of answer, asked where they were going to get the paiui for the second coat ii be gave them the paint for the first Without any hesitancy the beggais replied : “ We are going to send

to Sean, Roebnck & Co. for thut”

Comment is unnecessary. It carries its own lesson. But there are plenty of others like them.—MilknlU Republuan.

STEVENS NEXT SENATOR.

Primary Hiectian has come and gone, and Lewis T. Stevens has secured the Republican nomination for State Senator by a good majority in the face of a bitter fight, the final outcome of

which was in doubt until the last minute.

All loyal Republicans will bury personal feeling now, and work for the election of the Republican ticket in November. The Rigor forces must take defeat as lile’s bitter with the sweet, and make the most of it Factional differences before Primary Election must be buried after, if the Republican party will triumph. Harmony must

be the watchword, and, we bejicve. will be

Mark Lake, of Ocean City, captured the Assembly nomination by a majority of 36 votes, the smallest majority given a County candidate in a decade, indicating clearly the close contest for this nomination. Gilbert Smith, of Avalon, and Eugene Cole, of South Seavilie, were the other contender-.. Lake is a seashotc man, and while has the interest of the shote at heart, be will nut neglect or in any way alight the mainland. The nomination ol l,akc is also a balm for the Rigor forces, us he was a Rigor candidate. The Republican ticket in Novembet will be: Lewis T. Stevens for State Senator, and Mark Lake for Assembly. For party success, for honesty in administration, for prosperity and liattnouy,

this ticket ia November.

The carriers and their friends have become a powerful political in-

terest. They demanded and secure liberal payment. The people along a route are said largely to pay for it by the

c tampf they buy and those that arc bought to deliver mail matter -o^msiMuiir to them. Possibly, yet the same people might be living elsewhere, N Av.iJ^jL.'nK.^.'iiiii. prid.y, Nw and buying the stamps at a regular post office were there no route. " r ,U HoKnli As a time saver the service is very effective. It is cheaper for a.* fwJd L .!?V. one man to spend c day carrying mail to a hundred farmers than ^VuiUi TV/.’n. for a hundred fanners each to spend an hour or two a day driving j**** *** to tbe post office. The critic may say to this, however, that tl,c ARRIVAL AND DE*

cost of the service should be juid by the farmer, since he gets the

benefit of this enormous lime saving.

Country aud city must each think Broadly of the intciest of 1 the other. There are certain dzawhacks ol loneliness to life 011 the' bum. This has led people to rush to the towns, and has made j living costs higher for all town dwellers. Unless the town )N^>ple wish this tendency to continue, they must go the limit to bring modern conveniences to the outlying town t uial sections.
