The newly-elected City Commiaaionert ret in the City Hall on Tuesday to gasixe, and after the preliminary formalities w-rv aooompliahed Richard W. Cronecker waa elected Mayor of the city and Chairman of the Board of Commiaaionert; Ltwia Stanmeyer waa elected bead of the Department of and June* T. Chapman Director of Public Work*. A number of citizen* tamed out lor the meeting, and after the official ing of Cronecker as Mayor •bout* of "Speech!” were ably responded to by Mayor, who aaid that the new Commiaaioner* would try to conduct the city in a manner that will satisfy everyone, calling particular attention to the fact that the voters not only had the power to put the Commissioners in office but could also take them out by recall He particularly urged that everyone help out, and advance ideas that will be for the benefit of the town. "1 have no fault to find with the outgoing Commissioners,” Mayor Cronecker continued. “They did the beat they could and honeetly worked hard for the progrea* of the town. We may do worse than they did, but w* will try to better satisfy you. One thing that Mayor Atwater haa ollen aaid was that in hia owa loaaa when hia expense* were exceeding the income, expense* were cut. That is exactly what we propose to do and will make a substantia! reduction in the aaiario* of all the city officers, inemdmg ourselves." Mayor Cronwcker further stated that be favored clean-up campaigns, public baud concerts,and everything that would make for a bigger and better city. The Freeholders met at Cape May Court Houae on Wednesday and heard the report of the special committee which went to Trenton on May 10th to interview the Stale Highway C..n,mi»•iou for Slate aid on county roads. Tl>e report waa that Cape May County would receive *4S,000 of the Slate money this year and that this money could he spent in repaving or in any other way repairing existing roads. A public hearing by the State Cosnmitaion on Route 14, fro*. Egg Harbor Cape May.'of the new Edge Road law, will be held at Cape May Court House on June 15th, at 3 p. immittee reported. The pay of laborer* on county roads aa raised from *2.00 to *2.25 per day I nine hours, and laborers on spreading gravel were granted *2.50 per day. The Lighting Committee reported that their recommendation would be t'. discouiinue the lighting on all roads of the county, maintaining lights only on ondges and in front of public buildings. This »ill save the county several thousand dollars during the year and better satisfy the motorists, who complain that lights on country roads make driving bard, the glare blinding them so Uief in not see the road. Work Being Rushed I 3 ?:" On Steel Company Grounds Work is being pushed as rapidly as possible on the erection of fifty stnrehouse*. each 16 feet by 100 in size, on the proving grounds of the Bethlehem Steel Company, at Petersburg. Sutton 4 Corson Company, of Ocean City, and Edward Bader, of Atlantic City, have the contract for the work, which must be completed in a very short time.
