II You Want It, Build It An Atlantic City newspaper last week states editorially that Atlantic County wants the ..Beesley's Point to Jx-uicis Point auto bridge. That’s very nice of Atlantic County, and we tcel quite certain that no one will object to Atlantic , County building just the kind o:' the bridge it
wants.
As was said, the surveys are all ready, the soundings have been made, and all that is needed to make the bridge a rcalitv is about S500.000. And a little thing like S^'X’.ooo is nothing to
our big neighbor on the north.
As far as Ca]-c May County is concerned, we feel that it does no: want the bridge b^i enotigh
to spend its halt share ot the cost of financing it. I The backers ot the revived movement for the Point to Point bridge a:c a mere handful of mainland residents who cannot become reconciled to the real improvement that :> under wav in the All-Resort Ocean Boulevard, the first link of
which will be otern to travel next summer. No doubt the bridge trom Beesley's Point to
Somers Point would be ai: advantage for the Cape May County Every new artery of travel the! is opened up. no matter where or under what conditions, is a good thing, and » bound to enhancq property values. But for even cent that the Point to Point :: gc will return in increased taxes the Boulevard u return dollars.
And therefore it would be might-. ;oor for Caj-c May County tv attempt tv rit bridge when the same amount of mou

it not be well to suggest to said Henry Clay that he join hands with Atlantic County and finance the bridge ? He would be the only one to receive any great direct benefit from the building of the bridge. The argument has been advanced that a great deal of Cape May County produce is shipped to Atlantic County markets by water, and that thebuilding of this bridge would make the shipment of thb produce by auto trucks a simple matter and lessen the cost of the Cape May County produce to Atlantic County consumers. The fallacy of this argnment is apparent to anyone knowing conditions. Cape May County affords ample market for everything that can be grown here. Our seven beaches alone consume more than can be raised. And if they did not, the canneries would be glad to get what is left over. The only reason onr far mers ship to Atlantic County is for the higher prices that they can get there, and these prices would not be reduced by the cheapning of any mode of trausportation. VtCj do not seek to discourage the building of the Point to Point bridge. By all means let it be built—but let Atlantic County, or Henry Clay, build it. Poilus Ask For Teddy Few nobler tributes ta gallantry have been paid # than that cuiitaiue in Georges Cleraenceau’s open letter to President Wilson, appearing in L’Hotninc Enchaiue, asking Mr.Wilson to send Roosevelt and his comrades to France. “Allow me to say", writes M. Clemeueeau, “in all candor that at the present mumen . there is in France one name which enhances the beautv of American intervention. It is the name of Roosevelt, your predecessor, even your rival, but with whom there can be no other rivalry than that of heartening success.” The writer of this letter declares that he met Roosevelt only once in his lik; that the former President is an idealist, “imbued with simple, vital idealism. Hence his influence on a crowd; his prestige, to use the right expression. If the law has charged you, the President, with all the practical issues of the undertaking, i» is no less true that Roosevelt represents a vast potential tactor which no statesman is able to overlook. I only claim for Roosevelt what he claims for himself—the right to appear on the battlefield surrounded by his comrades.’' Clcmenceau writes that the arrival of the first American unit on the French front was hailed with delight, but that many of the poilus asked : “But where is Roosevelt? I don’t see him.” Roosevelt, Monsieur, is marking time waiting his country’s call. Apparently he is the victim of the pettiest piece of political jealously ever betrayed to the American people. His offer to lead troops having been turned down, he has been urging the country to purchase Liberty bonds. About the time that widow's weeds are to be seen on every street it may occur to the Administration that the services of even- American. tegardless of his politics, should be utilized, and then, perhaps T. R. will get his opportunity.

The North Wildwood Road North Wildwood wants - road make * shorter and more direct .oute into the Borough for actoists from points west. North Wildwood is certaintly entitled to • uch a road. No lair minded person will deny that But is almost inconcievable that in asking for this road. North Wildwood Freeholders should ask fo: a meadow turnpike across to the Main Seashore Road at Burleigh instead of the only logical and direct route, from Stone Harbor across Hereford Inlet. * One road would cost about as much a- the other. One road cuts across meadow land to a country road, and the other is already partly built in both the Boroughs of North Wildwood and Slone Harbor, requires only a little road and bridge building to make it complete, and con- ! nects two live hustling towns bv a most diiect i
route.
.'•side from this, the North Wildwood to i Stone Harbor road accomplishes the '.>tii poses i that is now sought—namely a mote direct route. With lb:, road built the autoist would simply use the existing Stone Harbor turnpike turning i tr. at Court House, and then run through Stone
Harbor to *>orlh Wildwood.
Eventually the autoist w ishing to get to North Wildwood will turn into the County at Ocean Citv. o. at Sea Isle City, and travel through ihe reports, driving over the inlets on bridges, such as the one now Iwing built at Core -n's Inlet.
This is coming.
The Board of Freeholders would not be accredited with even ordinary intelligence if they j vote for and put through the present proposed road from North Wildwood to the Main Sea- ; sboic road at Bnrlcigb and any effort, and ot- j pease ioz surveys along th-L hue. should be dis- | continued at once.
