Unpunished Perjury Dangerous The Summit, New Jersey. Record, in speaking editorially of a case in Union County, discusses a topic that is a vital importance, the force and truth of which is patent to all who are familiar with the procedure in nine court cases out of ten. The Record says - —\ vast majority of the criminal trials of the state are marked by the most brazen sort of perjury and a lawyer of wide practice in the state recently declared that be considered the increase of the practice in both civil and crimal cases offered one of the most serious problems with which state or county authorities have to deal. He declared that in recent years straightforward, honest testimony, free from jietjury had come to be the exception rather than the rule in trials of every description and he believed some earty and drastic steps should be agreed ujxju if the constituted authortics do no not want the courts to be the laughing I stock alike of the criminal element and of law abiding citizens of common sense. In repeating these observations or referring to conditions, notoriously flagrant, we have no intention of criticising those selected to enforce or an mi ns ter the I laws in Union County. "The present prosecutor has handed cases coming under his direction wipt all possible skill and energy and the judges both civil and criminal have discharged their duties in all tairner s and with scrupulous regard for the law and rights of concerned.
