INSIST THAT ROUTE !5 ENTERS COUNTY AT ELDORA. The New Jersey State Highway Commission is considering the location of a road from Bridgeton, in Cumberland County, to connect with some point along Route 14. Route 14, to ><e built under the Edge Road Law out of State funds, will enter Cape May County at Tuckahoe, and will run along the present Tackahoe Road to Marshall’s Corner, on the Main Seashore Road, and thence along this road to Cape May The location of this road was arbitrarily i the law itself, but the location of Route ' of the Edge law roada, was left up tin, the only reguirement being s >»in Bridgeton to some point along
.emeut* made by the Commission at uig at Cape May Court House last week, . obvious that that body has under consid.cion the running of thb Route 15 to May's sduiding, to connect there with Route 14. thus completely cutUfig ulT Cape May County from participating in the benefit* of Route 15. The State Engineering Department has suggested the running of this road from Bridgeton to Millville, thence through Cumberland County to Cape May County, entering the latter at Eiders, extending along the Bay Shore Road through Denuisville and Goshen, to Cape May Court House, where it would connect with the Route 14. This latter suggestion would cost the State considerable more money, but would save the taxpayers of Cape May County the cost of repairing and maintaining for all time the present gravel roads along this Bay Shore road, in the district named, and would give us a fine hard surfaced road in place of the present **fair-to-middlin' ” gravel. Connecting with route ?4 at Mays Landing, as spoken of by the Cummiaston would completely eliminate Cape May County, with her $39.<HX>.0uy ratable*. Cape May County should be heard from strongly on this. We should not merely sit by and state grandly and theatrically, as was done by several County folk i-.t the hearing, that we “are willing to let the location of route 15 up to the Highway Commission, relying on their superior judgment,** e*c., etc. Rest assured that Hie Highway Commission is interested chiefly in getting route 15 built the shortest possible way. and will connect with route 14 at the point that wdl save the building of as many mile* of the former a- possible. We want, and we are entitled, to particircle in the benefits of route 15. It is up to the Board of Freeholder.-, the County Chamber of Commerce and every civic and commercial organize'ion in Cap* May County to make this

fact known to the Highway Commission before it is too late. This is a vital matter, and one running into hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings for the County on her road system. And it demands IMMEDIATE ACTION.
AN ERROR CREEPS THROUGH. In the stress of getting to press last week, we published in the personal column that the County fair would open last Friday, when in reality it opens today. October 5th. We trust that none of our readers were misled by the premature publication of the item. No matter how carefully copy for newspapers is prepared, an error is bound to creep through once in awhile, and when it does it is usually so obviously an error that the general reading public wonder how such a flagrant mistake could have got by. The making of a newspaper, even a country weekly, however, is a nasty and hurried operation. and copy cannot always be as fully prepared as. it could be if there was more time* in

which to do it. More than ordinary care i.- exercised in the making of the TIMES, and very few^errors are allowed to get through. Mistakes are bound to occur, however, and our readers will find us always ready to correct any to which our attention is called. In this way only can a newspaper truly be a reliable medium for the dissemination of news and the frank discussion of public topics of community interest
GAS PLANT CANNOT SHUT DOWN. The determination of the officials of the local gas company to shut the plant down, and stop the manufacture of gas on October 16th, is the most serious problem that Sea Isle City has been called upon to face for some time. What we have never had we do not miss. But we have had gas; we have laid our service pipes and installed our gas equipment; we depend upon gas for our cooking, our lighting, and some for our heating. To have this taken away would not only be an economic loss, rendering the thousands of dollars spent by consumers for service mains and equipment valueless. but would deprive the residents, and especially the summer visitors, of that which they have learned they cannot do without Some steps MUST be taken to prevent the shutting down and dismantling of the gas plant The stockholders cannot be blamed for wishing to get rid of a losing proposition, but some solution to the situation must be found, and at once.
REPUBLICANS SUPPORTED WAR BILLS. There are few political contest* scheduled for this year, but it may be fairly assumed that the Democrats will enter them w.lh the slogan, “Stand by the President". They will allege, we suppose, as they already have in New Hampshire and in Indiana, that a vote for a Republican candidate is a vote for “Prussianistn and the Kaiser", while ;o vo* • for Bill Snath, the Democratic candidate ior local office, is a vote for Wilson and Americanism. They will omit to point out that their is a difference between the Democratic ami Republican parties, which will be of some consequence in determining a vote this year; ana that this difference may be observed by looking at the record which has been made in Congress since we could no longer be “kept out of war". That record will reveal the chief and almost the only »p|iosition to the President and hi* policies to be among Democrat*. who have Uvn unmindful of the needs of the nation and of their obligation to the country in its time of stress. Republicans have readily assented to the President's suggestion*. Whether these suggestions ha\e been the wisest is yet to be seen; but the fact remains that practically nil of the impetus which has been g' * eii to war plans has come from Republican co-operation.
From indications in Cape May City, it looks as if our friend Henry Rutherford is going to have a battle to be re-elected to the Board of Fr»-ch<ddcrs. of which he is now Director. At the L*st minute lamiucl K. Miller. Jr., captured the Democratic nomination, and sentiment in t'a|ie May City *eems to be that he will be elected. Henry ha* held the job so long that he thought he owned it. and the battle in November will make him less cock-sure, if nothing else.
